Raynaulds/Chilblains? Something else?

When I was diagnosed with PA 3 months ago I had swelling of my fingers & hand which has now moved to the other hand. I was given a course of AB's whilst waiting for blood results just incase I had an infection. I have burn like blisters & swelling around the joints & my skin is extremely dry causing cracks & bleeding. No improvement since my 2 x 6 loading injections & SI at home 3 times a week. Could it be something else? Trying to get another Dr appt as it worrying me. Dr said I had Raynauds but I'm worried something else is going on.

Vertigo has stopped but I now have a very spotty chin! I've never had spots like this, they have white heads but are on top of big red bumps.

Yes the spots are probably from the b12 . I had them after loading doses. Also never had acne or a problem with spots before. They are known side effects.

I had them mainly around my hairline and neck and on my face

They rarely happen now.

Just keep them dry.

My finger got a bony lump since b12 deficiency and my skin all over has dried out including my scalp.

Must admit not even told my doctor about finger.

Dry skin like eczema I'm treating with various oils snd creams .

Perhaps get your thyroid checked.

Mine okay.

If you apply cream to your hands then put plastic gloves on it works well.

Gloves for washing up ect.

Emollients in the bath.

All of which are new to me too.

Thyroid checked 3 months ago - normal. I've been using cotton gloves over eczema type creams but it's the swollen joints I dont understand not being able to bend my fingers at times.

You say your thyroid was 'normal ' - do you know which tests were carried out ? Often only the TSH is tested which reveals very little as to how the thyroid is behaving. FT4 and FT3 also need testing - the latter rarely done in the NHS and yet the most important thyroid hormone.

As PA is auto-immune it would be good to rule out auto-immune thyroid - Hashimotos. Anti-bodies need testing.

I have Hashimotos and a B12 issue caused by surgery. I also have joint flares similar to your pic above.

How is your VitD level ?

Many of us are members here and on the Thyroid UK Forum here on HU. Happy to help .... 🌻

I don't know about the thyroid. I take Vit d supplements until spring usually.

How much D are you taking ? Did you test first ? Some of us need D all year around to keep levels at around 100.

You are legally entitled to have copies of all test results with ranges. Enables you to monitor your own progress and check what has been missed.

Am sure you know that VitD is fat soluble and needs to be taken with good fats. Also important co-factors are magnesium and VitK2-MK7 - needed when taking VitD.

It sounds like it might be scleroderma. This often starts as Raynaud's.

There is a forum on HU for discussion of this. healthunlocked.com/sruk

The asymmetry you describe makes it unlikely to be B12

If you have Raynaud's that means lack of blood supply to extremities. Hot and cold water to help open blood vessels helps a lot. But it looks infected is it hot to the touch around the red area? Did it get cracked skin first and then develop redness? You can so easily get infections from cracked skin on yoir hands especially. Also yeasts and other things can live on cracking dey areas of skin. They seem to love any creases and cracks ..I get peeling skin on my finger tips and they have got infected before. It looks patchy and red and swells up and hurts to touch or press the area and feels warm sometimes throbbing. If its not that then I haven't a clue. Looks really sore though. I hope it heals soon. Did the doctor ever check to see if any infection had cleared up? If its yeast antibuotics make that worse.

It started on my other hand with a red bump that felt like I had been stung but I hadn't. My finger started to swell then it moved down and across my hand causing all fingers to swell over a few days. This was when I saw a Dr who took bloods to then find out I have PA. I was given AB's to take whilst waiting for blood results. It took 3 weeks for my hand to return to normal but then started on the other hand with red raised patches, no heat or itching. No broken skin to start with. My hands are extremely dry now and crack around where the swelling is. I can see fluid under the joints of my 2 middle fingers. I have never used so much hand cream/eczema creams etc which soaks in in seconds and brings minimal relief. I have no pain tho & they are not warm/hot around the red areas. I assumed it was linked to PA but I am worried its something else so I'll be ringing Drs tomorrow to try and get seen.

The spots are most likely a side effect of the b12.My fingers get like this but I don’t think it’s anything to do with PA. I get topical allergies and am allergic to latex, do you wear latex gloves?

No I dont wear latex gloves or have any allergies that I know of.

Is it only yours hands that are affected? I get eczema patches on my legs as well and have creams to help. Hope your GP can help.

Yes, first the right now the left. It's been like this for 5-6 weeks now.

At times my fingers get like this so if you find out what’s causing it I’d be interested! I assumed mine were arthritic changes, allergies and general winter soreness.

you hadsome sort of a reaction, correct ask for 2nd, 3rd opinion.never had chillblains, nor Raynauds despite cold hands and feet.circulation probs. I took b12 i njections to support overall immunity.Nackapan is correct. treat your dry skin moisturisers avoid getting infected. I suffer fro eczema all over, was born with already dry skin.the whole eczema lark is LACK OF MOISTURE IN SKIN, DISRRUPTED BARRIER, easily got inflammation. it is annoyin g, but keep it supple for minimum damage...
