I had a test which confirmed anemia then I had a test which said normal but no test results shown on my print out...now I have the results printed out and my mom had the same results as me...her doctor told her that she had high iron the kind of results he would say were healthy for a big famer but since she's a small wee lady he thinks its too high at 15. My level is 15 and I'm also quite small certainly not a farmer... So I'm confused. Is this on the high side of normal? It doesn't give any references ranges for me on the print out as it does for other things. So it says serum iron 15

Transferrrin 2.2

Yransferrin saturation 27

And tibc 55.

My mom said her symptoms of high iron were similar to when she had very low iron too...so I dont want to keep eating black pudding if I'm already high and feeling leg heavy kinda weird leg blood feeling ...anyone know about whats normal for these levels? Thanks.

Range differs from laboratory to laboratory

in reply to Akashrajput

They haven't bothered to put the ranges I had to go back and ask and the aldy handwrote some ranges but not for my iron panel and can barely read her handwriting. So I just have to guess...my serum iron is 15.... But 15 what I do not know. My mom said the normal ramge is between 9 and 15 for her test but her doctor told her 15 was high for her but normal for a big man. And I had a finger prick home test which gives positive or negative for anemia which showed positive for anemia. All very confusing.

Are you able to discuss the results with your doctor?

in reply to JanD236

In theory yes. But she told me everything was normal and when I got the print out I saw two things not normal that could have caused my symptoms and when I asked for the ranges to be on my results its the receptionist who has to do that by hand and I figured out most of them in the week it took her to handwrite them and get back to me and I have to walk there and pick it up so I didn't want to go through all that bother again. And she made a huge deal out of it. I'm sure I can figure out the ranges for Ireland ..they're usually like a magnitude of difference between different measurments...like if its moll or ppm or ml per liter I should be able to figure that out at least. What lab it is a don't know and since the ranges didn't come from the lab but from the receptionist googling it ...I dunno. They feel basically useless as they stand. I'm getting a new doctor soon so I'm gonna have it all redone hopefully with proper actual information thats meaningful.

The lab will have provided the range at the same time that they provided the test result.

I hear what you say about the difficulty of going back to your doctors but I think without the range any discussion is just based on guesswork. Perhaps you could ask by phone for a printout to be sent to you or the results, including ranges, to be emailed?

Oh no I got the print out. Then asked for the ranges to be printed they said they cabt print the ranges it just comes like that and I said well I need to know so she hand wrote in the margins for me but she didn't do the iron and a few others she missed. I don't see what use printing it without the ranges is .... But I'm sure they're busy with worse things. They're pretty useless down there. Can't be arsed banging me head over and over.
