Hi - just been contacted by my GP - want me to have B12 & foliate test after seeing blood results for an operation I'm due to have. My dad had B12 injections in his 70's - poss prior but can't be sure? I have had finger and toe numbness & tingling for a few years, and former GP sent me for an electromyography test, that was negative. Also often get really itchy, red & slightly swollen hands usually after coming indoors-this is all new to me, how's it looking ?? thanks for any replies in advance, Jon

Good youve a doctor to think to do your b12 and folate levels before symptoms get worse. Nip it in the bud.
Just wait and see what the bloods say.
Work with your Gp whis trying to find the reason for your symptoms
Will probably move onto thyroid test too.
My Gp is waiting for something to jump on as finding it difficult to believe my low b12 level has caused so much.
Nerve conduction studies look at the axons - the large nerves. But a B12 deficiency can cause small fibre neuropathy. Indeed, it's the second most common cause of SFN after diabetes. SFN will not show up on a nerve conduction test.
