Iron bisglycinate and drowsiness

Hello all.

I hope you are all well.

I suffer with chronic dizziness too and am finding that my iron bisglycinate supplement 20mg makes me drowsy.

Can it do this?

Would it be ok to take it at night half an hour before bed with a little fruit instead and added Vit C?

Thanks again for any suggestions.

I appreciate it a huge amount.

Kindest regards.

Yes you can take your iron at night .I've mot found an iron supplement makes me drowsy . Not sure if it csn be a side effect.

Cawthorne pysio exercises can help dizziness.

How often are you having b12 injections. ? Or do you think it's your low iron causing it?

Could be a number of things. I shall analyse my blood panel when I get the results back which is the way to go.

For me I can't even take an OTC anti histamine without it making me drowsy. I have a leaky blood brain barrier which I am slowly addressing. It will all take time to heal.

Iron deficiency anemia can cause drowsiness as a symptom. Iron salts in general are best taken on an empty stomach with a source of vitamin c. Of course, being low on folic acid/folate, and vitamin B12 will also cause symptoms and they all work hand in hand to build e blood 🩸. Calcium can bind the absorption of iron so should be avoided until another time.

Thank you. I will try taking iron at night before bed. I am taking it with Vit C and away from calcium and time will tell. It's a tricky one this extreme fatigue. I feel very fragile.

If you do take your iron at mealtimes it's a good idea to avoid some foods, like spinach, as they contain polyphenols that bind to the iron, making it insoluble.

If your iron is in chelated form already (bisglycinate, fumarate, etc.) there is no need to take it with a chelating agent like vitamin C. Iron sulfate will be absorbed better if taken with vitamin C and citric acid.

Solgar Gentle Iron recommends it be taken with food.

Thank you. It makes me foggy and heavy headed. Therefore I will try taking it in the evening with some fruit to see if that helps too. Again thank you for your advice.... in fact there are many that say it's best on an empty stomach but I shall do my own trial and error to see what works for me.

Hope fully I can start to feel way way better someday soon.
