Hello, I am self injecting because of problems at the surgery. (When I was caring for my husband and really finding it a strain the doctor did say I could have them 8 weeks. Then suddenly it change and he said the Government??? said we only needed them every 12 weeks. Dont believe that! So I have been self injecting, but the last two injections I have found it so hard to break the vial, I tried really hard - maybe I cant grip like I used too (I am 78) One vial did break, but the glass went all over the place, and I dare not use that vial. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thank you. BriarHill Cat
WHY CANT I BREAK THE VIAL: Hello, I am... - Pernicious Anaemi...
WHY CANT I BREAK THE VIAL
I too had trouble I have noe bought a little device called
'Snap it ' not cheap but really good.
Before this recommendation on here I was really struggling.
Theres are different ones put there too.
The one I uses you push on the device on top of the vial after making sure the b12 is at the bottom .
then snap away from you the device holds the glass then you push down the top and it releases the glasd into your sharps box
I've never looked back
I've tried a few and the SnapIt is, by far, the best. It does cost a lot, but it's worth it.
Hi Briarhillcat I hope you are well.why don’t you buy the ampoule snapper from amazon it’s so much easier and a reasonable price.£3 at the moment.just go on Amazon website and type in ampoule snapper.any problems pm me and I’ll advise further.xx
I bought one cheap and easy and safe to use. Amazon or ebay
Hi Mozza I usually put the ampoule in it after I’ve prepared my needles then I snap the ampoule and I put the folded snapper between my knees to keep it upright and steady while I use the larger needle to draw up the liquid,it’s so much easier I just put the ampoule in the sharps bin when I’m finished.I hope Briarhillcat has managed to get sorted it’s one less problem to worry about when your self injecting x
Thank you Thrones
I use an empty syringe to snap the top of vial, it's a game changer!
It’s good to hear how we adapt to these things isn’t it x
Sounds frustrating! Sorry if this is obvious information, but just in case no one has said this before. Make sure the little dot on the vial is facing away from you, then snap the top of the vial towards you.
I do ig with the dot facing me and snap away from me ! Same Prescription b12 doesnt have a dot
I think it comes down to technique. I do it like this video. Bare hands. Never a scratch. Dot facing me. Break towards me.
Lol did he say what I thought he said at the very end ? 😂
🤭 He sure did 😆
Hate it when just used in common language Takes all the joy out of it when using the word when angry
Glad I've got a snapit
Found that as clear as mud lol
Might be it send my brain crazy trying to watch a video. ??
I found he went on and on and he could have said it in minutes! There is so much bad language on TV now as well and more explicit sex scenes. I remember when the actors used to have to keep one foot on the floor in bedroom scenes. Then it faded into a beautiful scene, or a hot fire! Ah those were the days.
haha. i never watched the end. that's where the real show starts i guess. i'm pretty much an expert at jumping through videos to find the 5% that is useful. on youtube i think it's a strategy ...make long winded videos = more viewer watch time = better monetization. hate it.
I have got a snapper but find the top of an ordinary BIC Biro easy just make sure for is facing you
Hi Briarhillcat, I struggled massively with this too and thought id never be able to do it. Just one Youtube video and I was able to do it ever since. Its by a German/Austrian sounding man. My tip would be keep the 'second sentions'(as in, between the 1 and 2nd knuckles) of your pointing fingers flat together firmy-this seems to help find the correct leverage as you snap it. Also I still use some cloth-just in case!
You can use a pen cap. It works well if you need it.
Hi,
There should be a little dot painted at the neck of the vial. This is the weak spot at which to break it. Apply pressure at that point, with the dot facing you and pushing away from yourself, if you are going to do it manually or with a snapper. It may not be easy to find if your eyesight isn't great, but all snap vials have it. xx
Sorry your having trouble opening it, I too had an issue with opening them and cut my thumb on the glass so I bought the snap it device and has helped me
I don’t know where doctors get their information from but each doctor says different things about b12 and it’s so unhelpful. Hope you feel better x
