Loading doses

Hii all. I have just finished my loading doses of 6 b12 injections on the 4th of december. My level was 94 so very low. I felt a bit better until about 6 days ago but I feel the old signs creeping in like the heart palpitations and breathing, also the tiredness. I just got a result back from a b12 blood test yesterday and my levels were 1500. Seems high but still having symptoms? Can anyone else identify?

Sorry, but that is terrible advice.

I had deleted it but it appears to still be there. My thinking is that the doctor is likely to think it is too soon and that is an opinion based upon my own experiences. It may well be that a regimen of frequent injections could be necessary but getting the GP to support that is doomed to failure. The ones who go along with that are few and far between or long retired.

At the best they might think of a dose of high strength Folic acid. Which is what I got from them.

If you feel as you do then if you have any control delete what I said.

Darcey,

We can all understand. And it is the reason why some of us have chosen to self-inject. To keep an injection frequency that keeps our symptoms at bay. And not to continue to argue with doctors that refuse to listen and/or educate themselves further on treatment protocols.

Only follow your symptoms for needed injection frequency. There is no need to keep checking your serum levels, going forward.

See between #4 and #5 -

And information about not looking at levels to denote a successful recovery -

Yes, just about everybody here can identify with that.

Once you have started injections blood levels are meaningless. You need to contact your doctor and tell them that your symptoms are returning. They will almost certainly tell you that there can't be anything wrong as your blood levels are so high. Tell then that you want them to treat your symptoms, not your numbers. Here are two letters from a retired GP who cannot survive on the standard B12 treatment.

Your doctor may like to comment on them.

Ask for injections every 4 weeks. If refused then you may need to look into buying your own B12.

"Your doctor may like to comment on them."

Hysterical.

Hi Darcey14I totally understand how your feeling! I finished my two week loading dose 3 weeks ago(I had a level of 51) I now feel like my symptoms are returning but the earliest I can have another injection is the beginning of feb! I called my doctor because I also have neurological symptoms I have been suffering from numbness in my hands and feet which has been goofing on for approx 3 months now, there referring me now to a specialist. I asked if I can have another injection in the meantime and they advised there would be no point at this stage! So frustrating !

Thanks for the replys. I just wish I knew more about it. I dont get how the levels after loading doses are that high but I still have symptoms. My folate is 9.6 which I'm guessing is ok. I've had palpitations for 2 years angular chelitus on and off for a year. Dizzyness, funny breathing, a strange sensation on the back of my scalp , almost feeling like everything is set on vibrate inside disturbed vision low mood fatigue the lot. The doctors dont explain anything.

Hello

It was similar for me.

I had my loading doses back in September. After 4 injections I felt much better and my neurological symptoms went. Two weeks after the 6 loading doses finished the neurological symptoms came back.

I spent 3 weeks supplementing with high dose oral b12 and trying to persuade my gp to give me further injections. I think it is important to try. I didn’t supply any supporting literature but there is plenty you can access here. I wish I had bothered to do that. I didn’t manage to get any injections sooner than 3 months so I have started self injecting.

It took a while this time to get the neurological symptoms under control but I am getting there.

I hope you have success with your gp but if you don’t then do look into option of self injecting.

Best of luck,

Greypaws

My level was 50 and finished my loading injections on Nov 7th, I felt a lot better after just a few of the jabs, I somehow came across this place while searching for what PA and B12 is about, after a little read my intuition told me to get a supply of B12 and the needles needed in case I needed them, I have since given myself a shot every week since the last loading jab, I have felt ok overall breathlessness has returned & gone away again, my shaking has got better sleep quality has improved, I dont have fatigue like I did before, my enthusiasm for my RC helicopter hobby is slowly returning, so all in all things I am doing ok.
