Recovering from B12

Yesterday had MRI brain scan, as shock like headaches comes in sometimes, but MRI was normal. Neuro told that it may be a nerve pain from neck to head, given amitriptyline for easing the pain. Still facing some fatigue, tiredness, sometimes tingling in legs, also having sleep disturbance (no proper sleep)..wishing when will it get over

I had 5 loading inj alternate days it's almost 3 weeks back. Now on oral b12 tablets 1500mcg & also purchased b12 sublingual 1000 MCG methylcobalamin from Amazon.

I think you should be having more injections. The NICE guidelines say if you have neurological pain loading dose 'til no more improvement. Then jabs regularly for rest of life !!

There are more posts giving you complete info.

I am sef injecting alternate days for months, but still improving, so l carry on . The better l feel, the proof is that this works. Good luck.

I asked my neuro about that earlier, he told that as your initial loading will cover your deficiency & rest will be managed by 2 months of oral supplements. He also told that recovery depends on individual butbin my case (as my b12 was 131pg/ml) he told it will take around 4 months to see noticable improvement & feel normal

What you need to know, were you diagnosed as having pernicious anemia? That diagnosis means that your body is unable to obtain B12 through the digestive process from the food you eat (simplified version) If you have that diagnosis oral supplementing will not work. Please see other information on this site for a more detailed explanation.

Please find out for yourself. I have found many MDs who do not understand Pernicious Anemia and so I have to self inject with B12 rather than argue about how the oral supplements do not work and the super high B12 readings from blood work are not relevant in this particular instance.

I also require iron supplements.

But do read the information about Pernicious Anaemia (British spelling)

on this site.

I am not a doctor and so am only relating what my experience and perspective is.

Note that the cause of the anemia (American Spelling) is important to determine and is very important for you to know so that you may make informed decisions. Good Luck to you.

Like Lyntwo says make an informed choice.Find out if you can absorb b12 tablets by your symptoms.

If you can great but you will need to continue with them.

On here weve had to do alot of DIY as medics ate not well informed.

One of the neurologists informed me b12 is toxic and I was addicted.

Another (b12 deficient himself!) told me to kero b12 levels high ??

So much conflicting medical advice.

Go by your symptoms . If any returning or you get worse whilst on tablets you may have ti think again or seek a second medicsk opinion.

I don't know if this will help you, but I've been taking two tablespoons of tart cherry concentrate and a magnesium supplement before going to bed at night and I've been sleeping 8 hours. A good night's sleep has been elusive for the last couple of years. I don't know what causes it, possibly B12 deficiency, menopause, old age, etc. but it's hard to feel good if you aren't getting adequate sleep. I buy the tart cherry concentrate in the refrigerated section of my local organic grocery store.

Sudden sharp headaches, coming and going, can be caused by spiking blood pressure. I would ask your doctor for a 24 hour blood pressure monitor. When I had these headaches, my GP apologised for not picking it up earlier and told me it is a dangerous form of raised blood pressure as it is often not caught in blood pressure checks at the surgery, and so gets missed. If you have a 24 hour monitor done and the armband keeps pumping up frequently while you're using it, it means sudden, sharp rises in blood pressure. Worth getting this checked out.
