Hey guys, I am getting the intrinsic factor test tomorrow which my doctor highlighted as an unreliable test but managed to convince him to let me have it regardless ! Anyway, I have taken a single b12 supplement yesterday evening. This is probably a dumb question, but will this impact the test? Thank you 😊

Intrinsic factor test
No . You may not be able to absorb it anyhow.
The test picks uk 50% of thoses with PA
If negative no antibodies on the day . Doesnt mean you have not got it.
Ay least your Gp aware of that .
There are many reasons s for a B12 absorbtion problem.
Or for low B12
The chairman had 3 tests before a positive one !!
Interesting! The tests hes requested are Gastric parietal cell autoantibodies and Intrinsic factor antibodies. It will be interesting to find out the results. Either way he mentioned injections may be the way forward so it doesn't look like I'll have to convince the GP which unfortunately seems to be the case with so many people on this group.
The old tests for IF antibodies would give a false positive if serum B12 was high, requiring a long wait after an injection.. That test was replaced by a more modern one about 25 years ago, where you needed to wait a few weeks. That, in turn was replaced about 10 years ago by the 'modern' test that, supposedly, has no interference at all.
