District Nurse

A district nurse went to my mum this morning apparently.

No one told us . My mum didnt hear the door so no entry.

They rang and said going back to her tomorrowOr in my mums words in a few days. ??

No idea that had been actioned or by who. Will see if it happens tomorrow. Talk about lack of communication. When I spoke to a district nurse she was very clear no one going to my mum. 🤷‍♀️

Oh dear Nackapan,

It’s a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. IF they are going to try again tomorrow, it might be worth considering, putting a note on your mum’s door instructing nurse to ring her landline as she’s hard of hearing. 🤷‍♀️

Hoping that it’s for the injection and wound dressing. X

Yes I've asked them to ring landllne cant be there all day . A note as well on the door a good idea. I think theve picked up on the wound . As I said she especially immobile at present with it when last spoke.

B12 not due until November. They said they have stopped them until another blood test!! I've addressed that issue so will wait and see.

Honestly. Say one thing and do another.

Hopefully theh will turn up and see for themselves how things are

I have set up dad’s contact details at the GPS with my phone number so if the surgery need dad for anything they phone me because he doesn’t hear properly and doesn’t make sense of it. It works ok.

Might be worth a try.

Thanks they have my number too.

Unfortunately I cant uses the landline still because of my b12 deficiency symptoms.

So it can get missed if my husband not home. Nothing easy

Ive left my mobile no. too. As can tolerate speaker at times.

The b12 battle not over yet.

Could they text you? Dad’s surgery and chemists both do texts which is helpful.

I wish I could ruffle some feathers about my husband’s b12 treatment but as he is convinced that injections did nothing for him and he’s now taking tablets he won’t even consider having injections again - I can see him going downhill but am unable to do anything.

Oh that's horrible.

Write notes like observations.

Anything that reminds him of something he could do when having injections he cant now.

My mum initially said they didnt do anything. I reminded her she was rooted to the spot and kept falling asleep. The improvements are often tok slos and too subtle at times.

I think its fed to all of us you get an energy surge and skip down the road . I'm still waiting lol.

Yes texts would be good.

Both good and bad then, why can’t district nurses use their brains, they are going out to someone deemed housebound so maybe they are hard of hearing, not mobile, very slow getting to the door or won’t answer to strangers! God I’ve got so much rage in me with this menopause! Don’t put a note on the door as not so nice strangers may see it and it’s an advertisement someone vulnerable lives there. A key safe might be the way forward in the long run but not much help today!

Yes it's very difficult.

A key safe is there. She has CCTV because of past trouble. (See other post) also aid call. She is simply too trusting and her nature is of a yes culture. She csnt hear so agrees to so many things to get rid of people. She says no enough times to me lol but not to 'nice ' men selling things ect. I've drummed into her to not open the door . Uses the chain ect. Definitely worse for thoses living alone. Two even if elderly is better. My dad died years ago. So many ,especially women are on their own. The network on the street broken down as most have died. An era gone of the same people in the same street for over 5o years. Shes the only one left.

When I did home visits with the NHS. (Children) alot to be said for blocks of flats. People knew each other!

Yes the menopause made me rage alot. Like a permanent pmt. After nearly 5 years alot better but still there. So let's hope she gets seen today at some time. She at least knows they coming today. I always feel sad for people when they literally have to face the door all day when no time given. As you say nursesc should be used to it. As a trip to the loo can take 15 minutes . A text to me would be the answer saying within an hour or something of arrival. Tou get that for q parcel!!

Like you say common sense.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry a long reply set me off lol .

B12 being denied to our elderly unforgivable. I saw my mum wake up. No ill effects whatsoever from her b12 injections. My daughter has no side effects either.

Trying to stay quiet and get better myself as we all are. Sniff some lavender I do that alot. Very calmng and very good for head pain. Think i overdid it last night with the burners 3 cats still asleep! 🤣

You rage away it’s good to get it off our chests. I know exactly what you are saying about being a yes person, our older generation just naturally trust people. I had the same with my mum who I no longer see because of the “yes” thing. My brother knew my mum of 93 years had the beginnings of dementia and stole 12,000 pounds of her. When I called the police and social services she told me I was no longer allowed to look after her. I hope mum gets her injection they are so so important to keep their faculties going and that Indepence

That's sad to hear.

My mum had her wound dressed.

No b12 . So battle not over . District nurses knew nothing about that.

This is ridiculous and the district nurses have their hands tied by the GP. Unless it’s written on a PDS they can’t get it.

To add insult to injury I went for my b12 this morning. and yet another brand neo -cytamen

There were boxes of the usual Accord and Gerot and Lannoch out of date!! As I saw when she was looking in the drawer I sai that's the one I usually have shd said oh thoses are all out of date .

So all that being wasted and people being refused!!

Parksy profile image
Parksy in reply toNackapan

No way, that is horrendous! I wonder how many people have gone without their injections just for them to be thrown away. So did you get yours?

I didnt have it as a different brand I've not had before. I usually rotate between 3 brands. I know they are generic but one had a different additive (4th brand) and twice I felt awful after it .

So as the new nurse didnt know i left it.

0830 appointment as well . Actually cold waiting outside today. I didnr dare risk it . I lost 3 days before. Am presently reading all the leaflets. And now I think it's only one with the extra additive my body doesnt like. The new nurse was dismissive and couldnt be bothered it seemed to compare the two. Our bodies after all.

So much easier when you have your own supply to fall back on. I have it on prescription to stay in the system. I now know it it seems the same additives as the ones I'm used to. So if offered that one again will have it. I was amazed how relieved I was on leaving that I didnt take the risk. I did ask if I could check wit the pharmacist but no.

Twice bitten and all that. Yes either stock control wrong or alot of b12 injections not given!! Mine wasnt drawn up so not guilty ! I've never done that before but I'm losing confidence having to check everything. I used to have confidence .

I was amazed when I was ill the first time it wasnt recorded what brand I had. Just the expiry date. Since then I ask what I'm having . Not unreasonable. Then when ill again I knew what I'd had !

I will always wonder now that during my initial loading doses when I was very very poorly I couldnt been having that brand on and off. ??

I am particularly sensitive to supplements medications it seems. Not to food though .

My daughter has b12 injections and never 'reacts 'or my mum .
