Hi guys, I used to live in wales and I had to take b12 by tablets but moving back to Scotland i asked my new gp if I can have b12 tablets again, but he said it's not legal to give me the b12 in tablet form so I had to get the injection every 2 months, I look forward ŵhen the district nurse visits, I feel great for a short time. It's weird wales is only 6 hours driving but the laws are different. Sorry if I bored you, B12 works for me. Look after yourselfs, Davey hall..

The laws are not different. Your GP lied, or was misinterpreted.

If you want to take B12 tablets as well as having the injections then there is no reason why you cannot buy them yourself (lots of choice on Amazon). There’s no known upper limit for B12.

as fbirder says I think your GP has misinterpreted things.

High dose oral tablets aren't 'licensed' for use in the UK but that doesn't mean that GPs can't use their discretion and prescribe it.

Unlike injectable B12, B12 in tablet form isn't a regulated medication in the UK so you can buy it as a vitamin supplement. The downside is that vitamin supplements aren't regulated for quality in the same way as medicines (recent Which report showed that doses can actually vary a lot) though I don't think they looked at B12.

There are hundreds of high dose B12 tablets available on amazon

That's interesting not boring. People are fighting to stay on injections in lots of places in the UK. My own doctor kept ringing me trying to see me as wanted to put me on tablets instead of injections (cost saving of nurses time)but I said I didn't have time before I went away (UAE) I was pretty ill here then got tested for PA. Now I can stay on injections hoorah. Many would think you are lucky 😁

I understand it must be hard for some, but after having both tablets and now injection I think the b12 injection was the best for me. It gave me a wee buzz for a short time I felt great. Be told by the doctor I have to get b12 every 6 weeks. It's the district nurse who does my injection. Are any of you guys from Scotland? Take care guys. All the best. My name is Davey...

Hello Davey 😁 I 'm from Aberdeenshire 🐑

My GP practice only offers injections every 8 weeks as per official guidelines. This is inadequate for me to function as a useful member of society, so I self inject in addition.

I did purchase B12 from Germany, but at present I am using my NHS supply until someone spots that my prescription is being repeated more often than it should. At present B12 is the only thing I take from the health service, so I don't see why I should have to pay privately in order to keep well - Aberdonian !!! 😃😉

Will fight that battle when it comes...

Good luck & hope your health continues to improve,

All the best

That's weird I'm over inverclyde way and I'm on a 3 monthly cycle, even though I know that I could probably do with the injections after around 6 weeks, Im now getting a constant ringing in my ears, a tingling tongue and a deep internal body tremor, and the nurse and doctors don't seem to want to budge from these dates, my condition has got worse and having stomach issues which is well known to complicate absorbtion I find this whole subject very confusing, cheers

New directives mean you can have injections every two months . I haven’t got chapter and verse . But look through pinned posts . You might find the reference and print it out to show doc.

Many of us have to self-inject to keep symptoms at bay . Everyone is different . This “one size fits all “ is ridiculous and harmful .

Morning guys, hope your all well, I am concerned about some are having to buy B12, I find the B12 really helps me and really works, so why should you have to pay for it, your doctors are very slow to recognise the benefits you get. I have no side effects at all. To me I think it's a fantastic drug. It may not have the same effect for some. There is nothing worse being in pain all the time never ending, worse is no one can see pain so they think your ok. Take care guys and all the best...Davey..

P.s. I am from fife.

I live in South Wales , and my dr prescribes me B12 injections every 4 weeks ( it was 8wkly) ... when I was first diagnosed in the late 80s , I used to have daily injections ... then weekly , then monthly ..for around 12 months and that how it stayed for quite a few years ... but then a new dr reduced the dosage to every 12 weeks , it was only when the symptoms were as bad as when I was first treated that they made the shots more frequent ...and now I also supplement with B12 Boost spray

I moved to Prestatyn from Scotland to work I lived there for10 years, loved it till I became ill, but it was b12 tablets I was given till I moved back to Scotland then it was the dreaded injection, I was told it was painful and they were not wrong. Now I look forward to the injection, it gives me a buzz, for a short time I feel good. But it soon goes. I wish you all the best my friend. Take care Davey..

I take Thompson's of Australia B12 and it works too well said my GP as last blood test it was up around 942 and he says 440 is recommended. This company ships to UK they tell me when I asked for someone else there. Google them if interested, top quality.

Anyway injections I avoid if a pill is available and works as well. Silly maybe but my old Irish Granny said "let nothing pierce the skin if can avoid it as skin is there to protect us" as well as "never eat skin on animals" and I hate needles ha ha.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
