Contrast dyes and P.A

Hi all I’m just wondering should I continue to avoid these contrast dyes they use during mri or ct scans now that I have confirmed P.A.would I tell the hospital I have this or would I say I’m b12 deficient.?

I’ve always refused them as I’ve always been so allergic to everything, even anaesthetic made me so ill afterwards they used to tell me they’d given me an injection to stop the vomiting after surgery but I’d no idea what the reason was and never asked I was usually too ill, never been a good patient lol.thank you x

this worried me when I went for an mri with contrast dye last october as I also don't tolerate medication well(mostly achey tired feelings and pains)but it was fine-I don't think contrast dyes are used with ct scans though

a lot of us with b12d seem to be! I'm not tolerating insulin very well,I've always wondered if its the ingredients rather than the actual drug itself

A lot of people have issues with the fillers,I was like that with hrt I had to stop it because I was getting more and more side effects especially with the Vagifem pessaries.I went back to my beloved coconut oil lol it’s natural it works and has no side effects.

Maybe check out the fillers and see if there’s another brand you could try? Take care xx

love coconut oil, its great for all sorts,I didn't get on with hrt either,I have asked nurse about insulin and she said they are all pretty much the same, talking to her next week, see what suggestions I get

Try your pharmacist flosslechops you’ll get more sense there then you can ask gp for new script if the pharmacist makes any recommendations, worth a try x

I would tell them your concerns and of your current diagnose.

The more thorough the tests the clearer the results.

Just ask if absolutely necessary

I always think no point if you can't act on results.

Prioritise but get them done.

I too react to almost everything that's put in my body that doesnt belong there! I had a CT scan last year with contrast & had a side effect that my heart rate started going very fast 140bpm. It did settle after approx 20 mins but it was scary at the time. I had another CT scan earlier this year but they didnt use contrast because of previous side effect. This is rare & everybody is different . Also without contrast they cant get always get a satisfactory view of everything. I ended up having a colonoscopy & endoscopy just to make sure - ugh! Good luck with your scan - I'm sure you'll be fine - complications are rare. I would definitely mention you have PA & sensitivity at the premed check before you go in.

My son in law was recently rushed back to hospital because of an adverse reaction after a scan contrast, was really worrying as he’d already had heart issues.

I decided years ago not to have the contrasts done and Ive had numerous scans mri and ct with no issues as to scan quality,I usually tell them before the scan and it’s never been a problem I just wondered if I should mention the p.a. I know what you mean about the colonoscopy not very pleasant at all lol.

I think ultrasound in hospitals is very much under used and it’s so quick and easy,I’ve booked a private one for Tuesday as I want to see where my kidney stones are or If they have moved and or even better gone! Lol.

Thank you for your well wishes very much appreciated take care.x

Most people have a reaction to the iodine-containing contrast medium when it's given IV. I felt a wave of heat pass through my body Disturbingly it was most intense around my groin. But it passed it less than a minute.

But, I can see how that would not be a good idea in somebody with anxiety.

I should be getting the CT images from the hospital soon.

Sorry to hear about your son in law, I do hope he made a good recovery. Interestingly, on my last ct scan they did make an incidental finding of mild pericardial effusion - maybe that had something to do with my reaction to the contrast last year. Who knows- my Dr never mentioned the finding so I'm hoping its common & nothing to worry about. It might be related to my autoimmune condition.

Good luck with your kidney stone scan on Tuesday & I hope the pesky stones have disappeared!

Yes he’d had what they said was a mini stroke two years ago and suffers from stress related things I’d say, lifestyle, but he didn’t do well at all at that last scan they kept him in for 24 hours to monitor him after the reaction.

The professor I see now was less than impressed with the handling of my diagnosis of kidney stones so asked gp to do 24 hour urine calcium test and fasting blood test so when I go to have the sst test done on the 30th I want to have an updated ultrasound scan done so he can see where they are now.Never stops does it lol.take care x
