Help with needle sizes please.

Hi could somebody who currently self injects intramuscularly, please advise what needles are required.

Blue for injecting 23g

I have IM at the surgery that use this size

Use a long coarse needle ( 21G x 1 1/2 inch) to withdraw, and a finer shorter needle to inject 25G x 1 inch . This is for I.M. injections ( Intra-Muscular ) You can also use the sub-cut (sub-cutaneous) method for injecting . You need a shorter, finer needle say 30G x 1/2 inch for injecting . I use I.M. method , so I have never used sub-cut . But I know that sub-cut is an acceptable method for B12 injections. You could google for information .

Note that the 1" needle length for IM assumes you've not got a lot of subcutaneous fat. Some people might find a 1.5" needle works better.

I use a 25 gauge 3/4 in needles with a 3 ml syringes for 1 ml B12. I like to use the 3 ml syringes because they are easier to hold on to.
