The body absorbs B12 from your diet using a very specialist mechanism in the terminal ileum. B12 is used by a lot of processes in your cells so if you are deficient it can affect you in a lot of different ways and the list of potential symptoms is very long.

Because the cause of B12 in your case isn't dietary then there is obviously something going on in your gut - there are a number of things that can go wrong in the gut and will result in stomach problems - lowered acidity is very common and this will affect the efficiency with which your gut works. Problems such as 'heartburn' are very common (a symptom of low as well as high acidity), bloating and excess case are also very common.
