what exactly were you given? and were you put on a course of antibiotics for an h pylori infection?
Hi Gambit62,
Omeprazole 20 g, the soda test never makes me burp which = low acid so I'm a bit worried about taking acid inhibitors. I took them for about 3 weeks and started getting iron def symptoms. But how will my stomach inflammation go without them? My doc useless.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Ollie , I don’t know if this will help but I have had stomach issues for 2 years and I tested negative for pa but believe I have some sort of b12 deficiency. They said I had inflammation in my stomach after 2 endoscopy but that everybody has some and was not much to worry about. I went to 5 stomach doctors with the same result. They initially gave me sucralfate which I could not tolerate as it made me dizzy and off balance which has been one of my major symptoms. I also would eat 2 bites and felt full and lost 20 pounds in a matter of weeks. I had a motility issue going on. I could not tolerate any of the meds they tried to give me. I finally found 2 products online amazon that really helped me. One was iberogast by bayer-it is all natural. The other one is restore4life which is also on amazon and they have their own website as well which is restore4life.com and it all natural formulated by a doctor. I could not eat raw foods or salad dressing or anything like that. These 2 products really helped what is ever wrong with my stomach. I also take quality probiotics one of which is by natren which is the megadophilus one for the upper stomach. In addition to that I started on bovine colostrum by sovereign laboratories which is good for a leaky gut. I almost did not respond to this post as your stomach issue might be totally different and there are a lot of people on here that are very knowledgeable more so than me especially Gambit and fbirder , Clive Alive and Wedgewood. I just felt for you because I have had such stomach issues. I did test negative for h pylori but am getting a Sibo test soon. I hope that this might be a little helpful for you. It certainly helped me with my stomach issues and I believe I have low stomach acid also. Hugs and prayers to you to get better.
I am waiting to bear about h pylori result, no ulcers or bleeding just very inflammed
ollie7horse, I think you need to follow your GPs advice and take the omeprazole until the result of the h pylori are in.
Low stomach acidity will result in an environment in which you can get bacterial overgrowth and h pylori but it sounds as if this may already be an issue. The idea behind lowering the acidity is likely to be around removing something that could be aggravating the lining of the stomach and slowing any healing.
You might find it helpful to mention to your GP that you suspect low stomach acidity - though there isn't any recommended treatment for this on the NHS and it may be that a pharmacist might be able to point you in the right direction.
Hi Ollie
I had a similar experience, I have PA I was told I have low stomach acid, my endoscopy showed oesophagitis and multiple ulcers.
I was given high dose of omeprazole for 8wks until I had another endoscopy to check for improvement. I went to see my GP to enquire how the ppi would work seeing as I already have low acid and my GP said there isn't any other treatment so they're going to treat me the same as someone without PA/Autoimmune Gastritis.
I really didn't hold out much hope of the treatment working plus the omeprazole gave me severe headaches, I found the headaches disappeared when I took a good multivitamin with minerals. I'd read omeprazole may lower my magnesium so mutivit/minerals must have replaced it.
I'm pleased to say that at my next endoscopy there was much improvement to all inflamed areas so it worked.
I don't feel great on omeprazole so my GP dropped it to 10mgs as a maintainence dose now and if I don't take it the symptoms return.
I was tested during the endoscopy for HPylori and was found to be negative.
I thought taking the meds was worth a go as I wasn't given any other option.
Hope they work for you. 😊
Hi Sleepy,
Your situation sounds the same as mine, no ulcers or bleeding, yet! Just very inflammed, waiting for h-pylori result got docs apt next Tues. He will prob say the same as your doc, I took omperazole for 3 weeks and got iron def symptoms so stopped taking them, but not sure I've done the right thing. I bought manuka honey and hcl & pepsin tablets but haven't taken them. Have no idea what to do.
I found this helpful:
drjockers.com/10-ways-impro...
But do we treat as high acid or low??
Thanks for your help
I took HCL with pepsin now and then but stopped taking them after my endoscopy results.
I was shocked when I found out the meds worked, I really wasn't expecting them to.
I felt lost at the time as no one at the hospital seemed to be able to give me any answers to my questions.
My GP is very good though so I'm lucky in that respect, I showed him the report and talked it over with him and decided to give the meds a go and I'm now really glad that I did. 😊
That's interesting, I will probably end up taking them too, but am worried because no stomach acid can lead to bacterial Infection & inability to absorb iron, minerals etc. Maybe I'll take omperazole & hcl/Pepsi, shove it all in!!
