Have you seen a neurologist for the pins and needles?
I suffered with really bad attacks of arthritis (needed a zimmerframe to walk) until I started taking methylfolate. Now it's totally gone. Might be worth trying 400 mcg a day for three months.
Going to make an appointment with doc tomorrow,to see if I can be referred as my hands are numb.havent heard of methylfolate, currently on etoricoxib for my arthritis
Hesterbear. The symptoms you describe are listed as possible side effects of etoricoxib so worth discussing with your GP and/or rheumatologist as a possible cause.
Here’s a link to the patient information leaflet which gives details of possible side effects:
There should be a patient information leaflet in with your meds. Good idea to highlight the symptoms you have and take along to show your GP (difficult for them to know all the possible side effects drugs have - especially those listed as uncommon or rare).
It may be that a change of medications might relieve your symptoms.
However, as fbirder suggests, if the neurological symptoms persist it would be usual for a GP to refer to a neurologist for further investigations.
Also - are you getting frequent enough injections for your PA related B12 deficiency (if symptoms abate after an injection but return before your next injection is due, it’s likely that you need more frequent B12 injections).
Sorry you feel so rough and hope you find some answers soon.
I liked the original title!!! Many of my joint pains have very slowly evaporated while on SI B12 every five days. Still have osteoarthritis in my knees but mostly not too painful, and will be seeing a surgeon sometime to maybe have an ostomy on them. Keep with the B12 it should help, I've been taking it for two years now.
Thanks for reply ,been on si b12 for a year now twice per week ,doesnt really help.i think the fact is I'm depressed and have been for years ,so this doesnt help matters
Hesterbear, I could hardly walk from leg and back pain diagnosed simply as arthritis, because I already had it in neck and shoulders. After some years of B12 injections, the back and leg pain gradually diminished, showing it was mainly neurological from the PA. It took much more than one year, even with frequent injections. Don't give up. I found that gentle stretching helped me keep going, and Salonpas patches also helped. With chronic pain, you just have to find what helps you keep going, as doctors and medicines can't make it go away entirely. I hope the B12 eventually diminishes it.
