I waited 3 months for an urgent appointment to see a neurologist and yesterday I walked away from the appointment with the following.
You have migraines and as for the small two second seizures you ask about and the pain in your right leg and arm I have no idea and nothing I can investigate.
He also said you had scans in 2016 (4 years ago) that was normal, so I felt from that he had made his mind up.
When I said so why am I here and why would the Dr send me here, he said I have no idea. I told him of my b12 deficiency and he said stop taking extra b12 and get your dose every 3 months and get tested again. Nothing I can do for that so go back to your GP.
The GP that sent me has unfortunately left my surgery however I emailed another Dr to explain the situation and what is it I'm supposed to do.
I felt a fruad and perhaps my pain is not bad enough and maybe I'm just sensitive.
After my complaining he said your scan did show something wrong with your neck so maybe we can scan that again and give you pain injections. To which I was totally confused with and said no one has ever said my neck is bad and I dont have pain there.
I ended up leaving and saying dont refer me for another 3 to 6 months wait for a scan I'm not sure why I'm having as it's not worth the stress or wait.
Perhaps I shouldn't have done that but I felt rather intimidated that I just wanted to get out.
It wasnt even that this Dr needed steering in the right direction he was totally not interested and I felt a fool.
I sometimes feel you have to have a limb hanging off or head under your arm to be listened too. 😂🤣
Holistic approach for me going forward and continuing with B12 alone. The service really isnt worth the stress.
Thought I would share

So so sorry to hear this Seren1932. Thats tough. GPs cant refer unless you meet the criteria so his answer was a bit stunning. Did he not even assess you? Does your GP feel its b12 deficiency related?
The neurologist I saw was interested in the effects of b12 and was seeking funding to research it as he told me he has other patients reporting how much it helps with neurological symptoms. Even so he was reluctant to prescribe b12 as he said it was cheaper if I bought it!! He did in the end prescribe. Theres a lot of ignorance about b12 deficiency.
I didnt wait for the nhs to be honest but started self injectiong months before I saw the neurologist. (6 month wait list) My GP is amazed by the improvement injections has given me-ongoing. I wasnt really believed before as my b12 was low but in range so the thinking wa my b12 level wasn't causing it.
I'm sorry that hear this. I had a similar experience recently. He also went on about everyone has degeneration in their neck I'd had a recent brsin and neck MRI. I'm gkad ti rule out anything.
They don't know how to treat us.
I was naive to think they would know how the symptoms are caused anatomically but no
I was angry /confused then upset.
No guidance. No explanation.
It was on the post
A rant needed.
Rise above it . I wrote it down to get it out of my system. It did make me extra poorly which I'm trying to resolve.
Gp refers as put of their depth (right thing to do)
Specialist refers back to Gp!!
I've had this 4 times now.
You can't help but have an expectation when seeing a neurologist with neurological symptoms!
Even ti have the symptoms explainedible would help. Or "it must be very difficult " or something. To be dismissed like that is such an awful feeling I know.
You know your body . Stay true to yourself and don't let the ..........get you down.
You deserved to be taken seriously and with respect. These sorts of consultations csn be so damaging .Take care
I'm so sorry. Please believe in yourself! Symptoms are your body's way of telling you that something is wrong and needs fixing.
Just curious... If everyone who goes to a consultant gets ignored or brushed off, then what do they claim a salary for? Nice work if you can get it! Grrrrr!
The best scientific break through, especially for this condition, would be a way of being able to transpose your symptoms across to the Dr!
When caring for animals we have to watch, listen, care and empathise and we try our hardest to improve their lot. Not so with human medicine!
Try to get more B12 jabs and back these up with a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and maybe iron and vitamin D, ideally from your diet.
