B12/hypothyroidism

Hi all was wondering if I could get some advice. Previously posted about low b12 when tested on the 28th June (was 187ng/L (197-771 range) after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Gp said to wait until next bloods after being on levothyroxine for 6wks wouldn’t budge when asked about treating. 2 weeks after first bloods paid for medichecks blood test and active b12 was 68pmol/l (range 37.5-175) thyroid level were better , vit d was low at 54.3nmol/L( 50- 175) folate was 4.12ug/l(3.9-26.8)( was 11.7 on first blood test) also my thyroid peroxidase antibodies were raised at 441kiu/L (<34) which means I’ve got hasimotos? I’ve not supplemented since before first blood test and am now seeing gp this week to discuss bloods I’ve just had done last weds. Is there anything specific I should be asking? Is my b12 still too low to warrant treatment? If my level has raised on this latest blood test should I still be pushing for treatment?

Many thanks

How are you feeling? Can you identity any symptoms that are b12 deficient symptoms. Have you been tested for PA. ? Ask about folate. I think low folate can mask low b12? They are all closely linked and all need treatment I suspect. I took months to raise my vit D

21to 51 to now 73. Definitely take vit D. Make a list of questions.

Hi thanks for reply still not great better than I was but nowhere near being normal getting eye twitching pins / needles occasionally in legs and really struggling mentally keep forgetting simple words and names that I wouldn't normally even have to think about, I know some of these symptoms overlap with thyroid also so can't be sure if it's thyroid or b12 related

I would ask about b12 injections if you've tried oral tablets already. If they improve symptoms that's your answer. I tested negative for PA bug csnthen absorb ?? Enough skull on injections. A positive test is accurate. Hope you get on okay. It's quite overwhelming to get to grips with it all. Don't be rushed

Thanks for replying, some of the others on here have advised against oral supplements as they may raise serum levels without actually being metabolised into cells, then gp tests and says levels ok and all is well when it's not. It's definitely not diet related as I've never eaten as well as I have done over past year will have to see what gp says weds just want life back to normal!

Oh okay. Ivery no idea how you know if beine metabolised into the cells. Of course it will alter a blood test.

If your diet good and you eat food in the right way

Vit c with iron rich foods. B12 in small amounts through day. Not too much caffeine or alcohol then you are right you should be absorbing it. All is trying to suggest were tablets are worth trying as once on injections you seem to be on themail for life. I know someone who was low altered the way they ate and tablet's raised the levrl on the blood test. It took 3 Months. 180 uo to 389. So they upping their supplement and having regular

Blood checks . They feeling okay. Just a thought. Obviously go by your symptoms and make an informed choice.

Vit D deficiency has very similar symptoms to B12 deficiency so it’s important to get those levels up too xx

Thanks for your reply My vit d is low at 54nmol/L range is 50-175. According to the vit d council I'm deficient even though in range, didn't want to start any supplements until drs seen my latest bloods ,just want to start feeling better!
