B12-Throat Congestion-Can it be related?

I have had thick throat mucus for many years. All of the tests and exams have shown no problem; not digestion, no allergies, no structural abnormalty, no infections, lungs clear. It feels like glue in my throat. Swallowing can be difficult and it wakes me up at night. This started about the same time I was diagnosed with perniciuos anemia. Can it be related? What can be done about it? All perscription and OTC antihistimines and decongestants have been tried. I have been put on the purple pill twice. Nothing has worked. I have a clean organic vegan diet.

Hi - I have the same problem & tried the same remedies to no effect. It's so bad at night I have to take a bottle of water to bed every night because sometimes it makes me choke & I can't seem to swallow it down unless I sip water. I get alot of throat gurgling as well when just swallowing saliva! It's even worse if I'm ill with a cold for example. I find it quite frightening & frequently have panic attacks over it. I dont have PA but I do have a very high b12 which is currently being investigated.

I havent tried the purple pills - I'm not sure what they are!

Yes. A water bottle by the bed and it takes most of in a night to be able to breath through the throat gurgling and choking. The long term effect from not being able to get continuous sleep is very destructive. Nexium is the purple pill for acid reflex which the gastroenterologist says I do not have.

I have always had this issue, and had assumed it was due to my thyroid problem rather than the low B12. It has never been sorted out with medications, but I do find gargling with salt water before bed helps a bit.

I know thyroid issues can cause this but my thyroid tests are always fine. I find salt water and other home remedies help very litte but need to keep trying! Have also tried Chinese medicine in traditional custom teas. That did not help either. Obviously SOMETHING is causing this problem and it seems very strange that the medical community can not determine what it is.

I agree, it’s very frustrating. I must admit GP’s have been very unhelpful when I’ve tried to get it resolved in the past. I’ve pretty much decided it’s something I have to live with.

Hi RICHLEU, my husband suffered from this and it's horrible. He/we switched to Lactofree milk after a friend suggested it and it has made a massive difference. Why not give it a try?

Thank you so much for your response but I am a vegan. No dairy products so that has not been the problem.
