Can people tell me how their b12 is working for them ?
B12 working : Can people tell me how... - Pernicious Anaemi...
B12 working
The first sign was a massive increase in energy levels. Over a month of so I went from being unable to walk 50 m without sitting down to taking the dogs out for a 1 km walk.
Nowadays the most obvious example of me needing an injection is that I start feeling irritable to others. Indeed, it's often the others who ask if I've had my jab.
I've never had a big increase in energy. It helps me by better balance
Functioning g better at a very slow and steady pace. Can get a little hyper wanting to get things organised and done. My walks vary in strength and balance. I feel brighter. It si si varies though as bad fatigue again (injection 4 days ago. I was falling asleep with a sore head yesterday.
But today drove 1 mile and managed to see the dentist for a check up which was upstairs. Dark glasses in with a flannel over my eyes. (Light sensitivity)
All I know is its the thing that's helped me improve. I want tone get my injections to at least monthly but darnt at present as another sideways shift at present. So sticking g to 2 weekly.
.
Had no idea how many issues were impacted by my lack of B12 until I started injections. I have experienced: Better mood (noticeable to others), better balance (used to have to hold onto support to step down even a slight incline), more energy (still new to all of this, hoping for more), less foggy (still have it but less of it), less anxiety (major relief there). Still waiting to see how much pain relief I might experience and hoping for better sleep.
I had a couple of loading doses last year and noticed an improvement. However my b12 was very low at the time so having a massive dose did perk me up. Im on injections every 3 months now, last one was late though by 8 weeks! (Long story) im now 3 days post injection and i feel i have a bit more energy but no major improvements yet.
Before my 1st injection I had more than 20 symptoms the worst of which were Anxiety and Paranoia. There was no noticeable change for the first 2 injections but, after the third, the whole world seemed brighter/crisper and things started to improve. Thankfully my energy was the first thing to improve. Then the loading shots ended and I crashed; I was worse than before; another 5 symptoms emerged. Luckily, I had a great doctor and he started “every second day” straight away.
Since then I have continued to improve. I track all my symptoms daily and rate each one from 0-10. On my worst day (just prior to restarting injections) they totaled 194. Now I hover around 10-15 with the odd bad day mixed in. the remaining symptoms are tinnitus and nominal aphasia (difficulty recalling basic information). The nominal aphasia is still getting better but the tinnitus is constant.
In short – I have gone from a grumpy, anxious, stumbling, paranoid man, with no energy and lots of pain, who hated the company of others and avoided it where ever possible to a man who coaches his son’s football team, takes his children on overnight hikes, joined the board of trustees at my daughters school, has no pain and lots of energy, is renovating his house, and is better around people (this is still a work in progress)
I seen an endocrinologist today . Many of you will understand when I say its taken me all day to calm down. He gave me a lecture about buying b12 online (viagra are being sold that are just chalk apparently ) . He tells me I dont need to take so much b12 as my readings >2000, remember the b12 I get online probably isnt b12 lol . I have thyroid antibodies sky high and my tsh has risen from 5.45 to 5.85 between april 2017 and Feb 2019 and since taking my own b12 for a month on alternate days and now two or three times a week its dropped to 4..77 a couple of months ago to 3.62 a couple of weeks ago ...the endo says this is totally coincidental (he may be right) and that b12 deficiency cannot affect the thyroid gland ( bullshit ...frbirder do you have any literature that disputes this ?)
He asked me if I wanted levothyroxine, I said no as I believe the b12 is fixing my thyroid issues. I will get it retested 6 monthly and play it from each result. One thing he did that was a positive , of sorts , was he told me the fact had a positive intrinsic factor antibody result meant "it was likely I had autoimmune pernicious anaemia " ....thanks m8 .
I'm still in limbo as my gp diagnosed me with autoimmune pernicious anaemia but afterwards a senior partner at the surgery seems to have rescinded this and my gp (a locum ) has washed her hands of this stating " you see an endo soon he will resolve it" .
As to my b12 working.....I know when I need a short as I become short tempered , anxious , paranoid, clumsy, scatter brained (locked my debit card two days ago by typing the wrong number 3 times at petrol station...same pin number for nearly 12 years lol) and I get aching lower legs and occasionally wheezy (kinda)
