Went to one yesterday. Not on NHS now. Mainly used for rehab after brain injury. Dyslexia and learning g difficulties.

I had an assessment. Trial and error really as no diagnosis about continuing difficulty in not being able to tolerate artificial light. (Winter approaching ) watch tv or read anything bigger thsn small screen like this phone

I must've looked very bizarre as had big hat on and dark glasses because of shop lights. They used coloured overlays. Man was extremely patient blocking g computer screen with his body ect.

With the orange one (not my favourite colour lol) the font was clearer and I could read quicker and my head didn't react with sizzling as usual. ?? Trialling over paper before going to the cost of having prescription glasses made with a tint So fingers crossed may help.

I am just wondering whether you might be able to get help via the NHS if you ask for a referral to your local eye hospital?

I am having trouble with my new prescription reading glasses and have been advised that this is what I should do.

Oh okay Thank you I will explore thst route. It was the clinic that was closed 20 miles away that was Nhs. Reopened in a different place bit not Nhs now as lost the funding. I did get a referral to NHS consultant to check if any my price nerve damage done. Apparently eyes healthy but it's the messages from eye to brain??

When I had problems with reading glasses I discovered it was what they were made of. They changed the chemical make up of the lense. When they changed them to the one near St my old ones it was resolved. Another thing happened was with my vari focals the new manufacturers change the area of vision field by mmm I couldn't use them until they dropped the reading part. We all are very sensitive to change so worth considering. Still awaiting my orthopaedic pillow s they lost the order. I'm sure a good pillow helps with posture ect as you have said.

Thank you for your reply

Hope you get your glasses sorted .

Try a coloured overlay that are sold by some of the educational suppliers. I have used ‘Eye Level reading rulers from Crossbow Education. with great success.

Good luck.

They are about the size of a C4 envelope and are shiny one side and matt on the other so you can use whichever side suits you. Also have a single line area and a larger, paragraph, area. Handy size to keep in your handbag! My daughter has dyslexia and used coloured lenses in her specs, she had her lenses ‘plain’ rather than to her prescription and wore contact lenses to correct her sight - saved buying new specs if her prescription changed!

Hope it works.

Thanks. Good idea with the contact lenses for your daughter. I've given uo with contact lenses and have vari focals . Sounds just like the overlay I'm getting . They said used for dyslexia. I was timed using different colours . A Goberty gook text.

I have given up on varifocals as I got ‘swimmy’ sensations and felt sick using them for everyday things. I now have distance glasses for driving, reading glasses and do without for everything else. I was teaching before I retired and couldn’t get used to moving my head to look to the side - too many years of scanning across a room full of children!
