B12 levels

I hope someone can give me an explanation of why post loading doses and on regular injections our bodies need higher b12 levels. I read it on a post and wondered why they have to be higher after injections? Is there an optimum level to get it to reach the cells and be stored in the liver .Does it stop getting stored?

Nobody knows why some people need much more frequent injections that others. Yet.

Some people survive quite nicely on injections every three months. Others say they need them much more frequently. As doctors and you're most likely to get an explanation that includes the words 'placebo effect'.

Well, it's looking like those doctors may have to eat their words.

There is a study in progress testing three groups of volunteers - those who are happy with 3-monthly jabs, those who need it more often and those with a normal B12 status. Back in July some preliminary results were announced - pernicious-anaemia-society.... (Members only, I think).

Part of the study used something called metabolomics (which I was involved in when I worked). It looks at all of the different chemicals (of which there are thousands) in biological samples (in this case faeces). Well, they found a difference -

The group who needed more frequent injections showed abnormal molecular make-up, which was not apparent in the other two groups and they also had differences in their bacterial content.

We cannot say any more but while the bacterial differences were hoped for, the molecular make-up was completely unexpected and has opened up a whole new area of research. Similarly, the bacterial differences also lay the foundations for much more intensive investigation.

This is very interesting. It means that there quite probably is a biochemical difference between the two groups. Just what that difference is will require a lot more work to figure out (metabolomics tells you there is a difference - it doesn't tell you what that difference is).

I wonder they ever take blood type into account? "A" types are notorious for more delicate general and digestive health including a tendency to have less stomach acid.

That is a good point Birdlessbox. Blood type is important to know about. Dr. D'Adamo's book: Eat Right 4 Your Type would help.

Nackapan you can find out your bloodtype by getting a test kit from Dr. D'Adamo's website: 4yourtype.com/original-home... $9.95 - you don't have to go to a "doctor" or donate blood to do it. It is cheaper this way and less painful.
