Here we go again!
That's answered my question I think
My Dr wouldn't give me the extra injections my body was telling me I needed after I kept a diary of how I felt the best I'd felt for years after my 1st, 2nd & 3rd 3 monthly injections, but, only lasting for 2 days then struggling for next 11 weeks in-between each injection.
So I made the desicion to SI & feel the best I've felt for years now, everyday.
I have learned to listen to what my body is telling me & not to someone who we think knows best, when obviously there are still so many "Professionals" out there who have a lot to learn about B12 & PA.
So even though my B12 levels are now over reference range it's ok to weekly inject still? I felt so awful when I skipped a week.
Everyone's levels who SI or even have 3 monthly through surgery nurse will be over the reference level. I'm guessing mine will be off the scale now but I feel so much better in myself.
Someone with more experience than me will be better able to advise you but, going off my own experience I'm not bothered about my levels, just on how I feel.
There is printed documentation which states that checking B12 levels once treatment started is pointless & Dr's should go off patients symptoms only & not ranges, convincing some Dr's is another matter though.
I tried leaving my SI for one week after SI every other day for around 10 weeks, but soon regretted it & have reverted back to every other day now.
My Dr knows I do this & to be fair isn't bothered as he's seen an improvement.
My nurse said if I lived in another country I'd be getting injections every other day till symptoms eased & showed me how & where to inject.
I quite agree about listening to what your body is telling you.
I was diagnosed with very low B12 about a year ago and the diagnosis was quite by accident. I went to the Dr's with a terrible "itching", mostly on my back and head, also in my eyes and ears. The Dr tried prescribed various creams and a course of prednisolone but nothing touched it. It was the most awful experience of my life and I wouldn't wish it on anyone!! Not so much "itching" but a "biting" feeling non stop. I couldn't sleep and by process of elimination (and paranoia!) I bought a new bed and bedding, washed my bedding and all my clothes everyday. I felt like I was demented. It was a nightmare!!! Dr said I should see a dermatologist but the waiting list was 6 months so I went privately. In the meantime the Serum Blood test for B12 came back very low so (which the Dr didn't do with the first blood test) I was given a loading dose of B12 injections twice a week and then once every 3 months. However, this was not enough. By the end of 8 weeks I had no energy and still this feeling of "itchiness" although not nearly so bad. I had my B12 injection 2 days ago and have been feeling rotten, no energy, a bit breathless and generally just exhausted with a muzzy head. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? I do have a B12 spray but doesn't seem to make any difference. Have been thinking about getting the patches to see if this makes a difference. Dr's do not seem to have a lot of knowledge regarding B12 deficiency symptoms. Apart from the skin condition I don't have any muscular or gait problems just the exhaustion.
I had the B12 spray but having PA it did nothing at all for me.
You can feel worse before feeling better as the B12 starts to repair the initial damage, heightened senses of nerves as they repair etc.
I am by no means medically trained but, from the help of the amazing people on here, I just go with what my body is telling me & how I feel.
If I leave the injection longer than 2 days, (which I have tried), my vision becomes blurry & I get irritable. The most stupid things irritate me when they shouldn't & never used to!
So I'm sticking with every other day for now.
I have small fibre Neuropathy as a result of going undiagnosed also where my feet have gone from tingling & burning, which I could deal with, to now being really painful when walking a short distance. This was a couple of months after regular Injections.
I will continue every other day Injections till hopefully!?!?, This painful feet die down after repairing nerve damage, but I also accept it could be a long time before this happens.
Unfortunately, that's the rollercoaster ride of having PA.
Thank you for your reply. I sympathise with you and I do hope that you are no longer in pain after the nerves have been repaired. I get irritable very quickly too mainly because I feel tired most of the time and I do not sleep well even though I am exhausted and I can never sleep in the daytime no matter how tired I feel. Yes, I am aware that you can feel worse before feeling better, its frustrating isn't it? Its definitely a roller coaster!
Definitely frustrating!
I am lucky if I sleep any longer than 4 hours constantly in a night now.
I was diagnosed in 2016 with Central sleep apnoea but that has completely vanished now since regular injections.
So strange when people say, "it's only a Vitamin" just how this one tiny little vitamin can turn your whole world upside down!
Even though my sleep apnoea has vanished, I still cannot sleep any longer than an average of 4 hours. I've come to just accept that now as PA does cause sleep disturbance.
My Dad who is retired has B12D and can sleep 10 hours, get up for a coffee, have a walk about for 1/2hr, go back to bed & sleep the rest of the day!
Strange how it effects us all in different ways.
Hope you start to feel better soon.
Compete and utter balderdash, with a smidgen of tommyrot and a liberal dressing with bullshit.
I recommend going through this website, make a note of everything ‘Dr’ Tawt says and mentally label it as ‘crap I need to ignore’.
I think Dr "Axe" needs the Chop!! 😁
whilst high serum B12 levels can result in functional b12 deficiency for some people (which may be part of why some of us need to maintain very high serum B12 levels post loading shots, describing this as toxicity is a bit over the top - as the most effective way of treating functional B12 deficiency seems to be to increase B12 levels to a point where enough B12 does actually get through to cells.
You cannot 'overdose' on B12. it isn't toxic but that doesn't mean that taking really high doses is going to help you, particularly if you don't have an absorption problem.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment that taking large amounts of B12 unless you know that you actually need large doses of B12 isn't a good way to go and people need to be aware of that the article is based on a very poor understanding and exposition of the way serum B12 levels relate to how B12 is used by processes that go on in your cells.
