Ferrous sulphate dose enquiry

Hi, ive been placed on ferrous sulphate about 2 weeks ago because of low ferritin levels. They decreased from 30 to 15 and i was prescribed 600mg daily (200mg x 3). Theyve been making me feel gradually worse and for the past 2 days i feel extremely dizzy and short of breath. Im starting to think its because of a high dosage, but my doctor said id be fine. My resting heart rate is also quite fast at over 100bpm. Should i be concerned or is this normal?

Ferrous sulfate isn't a very good way of boosting iron levels. Ask if you can be switched to ferrous fumarate - medicinescomplete.com/#/con...

Do that when you see your doctor about your symptoms. They seem severe enough not to wait.

I'm taking ferrous sulfate for low ferriton levels. I now take solgar and 1 ferrous sulphate. Solgar is supposed to be absorbed better. as couldn't tolerate 2 let alone 3 x 200mg of ferrous sulfate. I don't know what level yet to see if it's worked as blood test due in April. Ferrous sulfate(or equivalent ) is needed for the elemental iron . I've also increased red meat with vit c of some sort like veg or fruit juice. Hope you find right way for you to get your leveks up. I think your symptoms are from the defiency. Only my opinion.

I hope everything goes well for You, fingers crossed. I've been consuming a lot of fruit and juices to help absorption and just health in general. Hoping this will help since sulphate isn't the best tablet by the sounds of it. Thank you for your help. I think it's just from the deficiency too, it's just a bit worse after taking the tablets

I thought that too. In my case it was waiting for something to happen and focusing on it. I've definitely improved. Been taking it for just over a month now. Less breathless and heart not thudding after the slightest exertion like going up the stairs! Dizziness I sometimes get from vision and fatigue so a hard one for me to know what's what but definitely less. It will be interesting to see blood results in April!! Thanks I hope it all goes well for you too.
