Hi Ken-ard20 having gastric surgery may well affect absorption of B12.

I had two thirds of my stomach removed in 1959 which led to P.A. being diagnosed 13 years later by which time I was a walking "zombie".

Take care now

what about looking at dr NHS google? think your GP would have a problem arguing with stuff from an NHS site?

This is the list of causes of B12 deficiency given on NHS direct - unfortunate that it mentions anaemia but then it is the NHS :)

nhs.uk/conditions/vitamin-b...

gastric surgery is listed as a potential cause.

You could also suggest that your GP tries looking at the BNF for the BCSH guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of cobalamin and folate disorders - which has quite a long section on potential causes.

It can also be found here

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

though this is may now be a slightly out of date incarnation.
