Hi I have a B12 level of 195 and have been having the following symptoms of late, on and off fatigue, trouble sleeping and concentrating through the day, heart palpitations and occasional night sweats, do you think it may be due to a low b12 level?

Hi! That is definitely low. Have you had any other tests? Folate? Iron? Did your doctor recommend anything?

Simple answer....yes 🙂

Do you also have neurological signs of b12 deficiency?

Quick Google search of symptoms will do

If you do also have those then it's recommended to have b12 injections to correct it as quickly as possible

I had many of the same symptoms as you (&more) most disappeared with the first few injections

Have you been tested for PA with those low levels ? Do you have a diet low in b12? Are you vegetarian ?

Any other health problems ? Hypothyroidism also lends itself to their symptoms. Anyone in your family who is hypo? Or PA?

If so do test for both thyroid and intrinsic factor antibodies and parietal cell antibodies for PA and have folate checked also as it goes hand in hand with b12

Good luck

SteveG44. Do you have the reference range for your B12 test (the figures in brackets after the actual result)?

as Foggyme says - you need the units/reference range as well as the test result. There are two different units used to measure serum B12 - on one you would be below the normal range - on the other you would just be within the normal range.

However, the normal range (where most people are okay) is a very large range so just because you are in that range - doesn't mean that that point is right for you. It is quite possible for an individual to be deficient well into the normal range. When you add in that the test is only accurate to within 20% then your results could mean that you are below normal range with both units of measurement.

I had a level of 198 and same symptoms as you plus numb fingertips and toes, tinnitus, hand tremor in one hand, dizziness and the awful shortness of breath. GP refused to accept that my B12 was low, even though it was highlighted on the lab report. With guidance from here I started self injecting every other day. After 2 weeks hand tremor and tinnitus went, quickly followed by numbness.

I still s.i every 6-8 weeks ( works out just over £1 per injection) and take Folic acid daily.
