Anxiety & B12
I have had periods of anxiety after injections. Not every time. I have to distract myself as the thoughts are usually negative about getting better. Also breathing exercises help. They are horrible but do pass and I know part of either the actual defiency or the injection. I've never had anxiety like this ever before this b12 defiency. Try ways of getting through it. Hope it doesn't happen too often
Are you in the USA? If so, are you having injections of methylcobalamin?
I normally inject hydroxocobalamin (the norm in the UK) with no problems. I've tried a methylcobalamin injection once - it was terrible. The feeling was very hard to describe, irritable and irritated as if my soul was being tortured with internal fingernails on a blackboard.
If it is methylcobalamin you're having try switching to cyanocobalamin.
I used to have this symptom in the UK when I was getting hydroxo-B12 injections. The symptom disappeared when I got sufficient B12 so that I was not deficient before the injection.
The symptom didn’t return when I moved to the USA and started on cyano-B12.
I think self injecting and treating by symptoms really eventually stopped this psychological symptom as the neurological damage was very slowly repaired.
Since it occurred after the injection, I’ve considered it one of the “good” symptoms and just measured its severity and treated it as an illusion caused by nerve repair.
I did years ago on my loading doses my heart felt like it was racing one min then like it would stop the next. I had unbelievable pains in my legs, I itched all over on my second loading dose I thought I was going to die my heart was so bad thought it would stop the pains unbearable and the itching GP wouldn’t give anymore. B12 was 106. I tried oral and similar happened this was at the time of being diagnosed Coeliac he left me to see what happens. It took 18 months to get to 208 now 6 years on 268 still can’t take it.
I still experience a level if anxiety at times, but able to cope with it. Compared to my health in the early days of diagnosis and symptoms, it's not such an issue. Anxiety is awful if it's extreme, so hope it passes or becomes easily manageable Seabee xx
Try upping the amount of calcium, magnesium, and potassium you consume. If I'm running low on any of these I can feel a little hyper after my 12 shots. I usually take a magnesium supplement in the evening because it helps me sleep. I eat bananas and drink watermelon water for my potassium. I try to get my calcium from food products and not from supplements.
Make sure you eat plenty of potassium rich foods and that your ferritin levels are at optimum levels. B12 shots use these, along folate, to create new blood cells.
