Can B12 deficiency cause demyelination of the central nervous system or is it isolated to your peripheral nerves?

Subacute combined degeneration is damage to the spinal cord.
Symptoms like Short term memory loss up to schizophrenia are all from damage in the brain.
In my case it wasn't isolated to peripheral nerves. It tends to affect the central nervous system if you are older 45 + also if low levels and late diagnosis and treatment. That's what I was told. Usually a I referral to a neurologist is done so they can assess. I'm not medical but was told this by medics. Also that if the demyelination has occurred it can heal with treatment but at a very slow rate and continues to heal for 3-6 month or more perhaps.
Hope helpful

B12 is used by at least two processes that maintain healthy nerve function - maintaining the insulating myelin layer around nerve cells - but it also plays a part in the processes that reset neuro-transmitters.
