Pentoprazole is a P.P.I. (a Proton Pump Inhibitor) It suppresses stomach acid. It is one of the drugs that can cause B12 deficiency, because stomach acid is an essential component in the absorbtion of vitamin B12 . It should only be used for a short period .

It can, with prolonged use, cause other vitamin and mineral deficiencies , because stomach acid is required to breakdown food in order for nutrients to be absorbed .But B12 in particular is affected . I have a friend who took a PPI for many years( over 12 ) It has been disastrous for her . So please be careful. The pharmaceutical industry makes billions from PPIs

I was on Pentaprozole until I did some research and showed my GP (who is always willing to listen to me and my information - mostly from what I learn from here). He then changed it to Ranitadine which isn't a P. P. I but works just as well.

Yes , but it is still a stomach acid suppressant . So called”heart burn “ can be caused by too little stomach acid . Because of weak stomach acid , which ,by the way , is what Pernicious Anaemia can cause , the oesophageal sphincter doesn’t get the message to close tightly , thus some weak stomach acid gets into the oesophagus , causing the awful burning . If it wasn’t weak , it could burn a hole , because stomach acid is so extremely powerful ( hydrochloric acid) We need plenty of good strong stomach acid to help , with pepsin, to break down the food we eat to obtain the nutrients . As I have PA , I take a modest multi-vitamin and mineral tablet daily . Also drink acidic drinks to help the acid-deprived stomach. Some people use lime juice , some diluted organic cider vinegar with mother . ( an enzyme ) Swedish Bitters are also good ( you can make your own with vodka/gin and marinated herbs! )

Sorry I’ve rambled on . But it is possible to help oneself with natural products. . Best wishes .

I was on actually on Omeprazole for a month. It made me feel so horrible. Then switched to Ranitidine it even made my hair thinning out and created more symptoms so I just quit. Glad it worked for you.
