I’m wondering if anyone can help! In September of this year my Vitamin B12 was 287 ng/L. Anyway I’ve just last week started with Neurological symptoms, tingling in my arms, legs, feet and more recently a really dull ache behind my left eye. Been to A&E 3 times. After doing some research I was hoping it was a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Anyway they have checked my levels again and they are 583ng/L. Now I’m thinking it could possibly be the one thing I’m worried sick about which is MS.
I was just wondering if it is still possible to have Neurological symptoms at the level of 583 ng/L?
Any advice appreciated thanks.

My Doctor said that MS doesn't present with tingling in both hands and feet in a short space of time. It usually starts in one foot or one side of the body. I.e.left hand and left foot.
Sorry dont know if you will see this i was just reading your reply in that you said ms doesnt come in all places at once is this true because ive been in a state for weeks as ive been having numbness in my hands and feet it started with my right arm then left arm then foot im so scared i have ms i dont know what to do i have major health anxiety im so scared the docs gonna tell me the worst ive gotten the courage to make an app for the 14th but im petrified
What you describe sounds like peripheral neuropathy.
According to my book on that subject there are about 80 possible causes. A vitamin B12 deficiency is but one. In the Western world the most common cause is diabetes. I imagine you've already had an HbA1c test for that.
Your best course of action is to see a neurologist and hope that their specialist tests can tell what the cause may be. They will also be able to order an MRI which might help rule out MS as a diagnosis.
MS has many symptoms that vary a lot between people. So it's not possible to say if you may, or may not have it. You really need to see somebody who can.
There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.
Symptoms of a folate deficiency can include:
symptoms related to anaemia
reduced sense of taste
diarrhoea
numbness and tingling in the feet and hands
muscle weakness
depression
Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.
I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for more than 46 years.
Hi Clivealive we messaged a few months ago, Im still having same problems, my doctor told me I had pernicious anemia and I had a gastroscopy and colons copy but no one ever said that I really have it, I have low b12 but been on injections since June my weight is still going down but slowly, I've had loads of blood tests done all different ones a full body work out, Ive had two upper abdominal ultrasound scans on second one they told me I have a slightly swollen spleen, a fatty pancreas and very small gall stones andim having very weird symptoms like itching muscles all over my body and stinging, I'm scared and my doctors say it's all in my head and put my weight loss down to anxiety which it definitely isn't, I don't know what to do, can you point me in the right direction thanks x
Hi Janeylou69 somehow your above comment has got into another person's thread and to be honest I am not qualified or able to answer your questions other than those directly involving B12.
I suggest you copy and repost your comment under your own name as there are others in this community who will be able to give you good advice.
It would be good if you could include the frequency of your B12 injections and the "low level" they are at now together with the ranges used <from -- to>
Thanks so much for replying Clive. I am not sure if my Folate level was tested. They have just said that all my blood results are normal. On my blood tests in September when my B12 was at 281ng/L there is no folate on that blood test.
I’ve had gastrointestinal issues for a couple of years also with H Pylori and Gastritis. This is what has led me to think it could be my B12 but with my recent serum level of 583ng/L I am a bit concerned it’s something more sinister.
I had the same thing and I went to a neurologist. He said it wasn’t MS. Could be linked to B12 or hypothyroidism (I didn’t know I had this at the time but have since been diagnosed). I have been on b12 injections and thyroid medication and the pins and needles have all but disappeared. So try not to worry before you know that it’s something serious. Hopefully it’s something else 😀
