If you have a good well-balanced diet , a modest multi vitamin and mineral tablet should be adequate . You don’t need a multi with huge amounts of supplements which are way above the R.D.A. Also I take a folic acid supplement in addition (400 ug) I think patients with P.A. do need extra vitamins and minerals due to the low/no stomach acid that comes with the condition , which leads to poor absorbtion of nutrients .

Hi wedge wood thank you for this. The multivitamin I’m looking at has 400mg I’d folic acid - do you think this is enough in total ? Thanks in advance

Yes , I’m sure that’s plenty . Even with reduced absorption that we PA people have , we do manage to get some from our food as well. Do you’ll be fine with that .

Best wishes .

I’m sure that you will . I’ll never forget how I was helped on this forum . It has changed my life . I worry about people who have no access to the Internet , so don’t know about the PAS . Imagine being homeless with P.A. and not having enough injections. No internet , no address , no hygienic surroundings. It’s just horrific .

Oh god I couldn’t agree more, the day I collapsed at work thinking I couldn’t go on, to how I am now - almost back to fully functioning and enjoying life again. I feel for people who don’t know about this or as you say don’t have access or are mentally ill or don’t have the confidence to push for tests etc. It’s just all so crazy the information we are given at our surgeries and how misinformed GPs are. Worrying how many other people who have other illnesses that this happens to. I’m eternally grateful I found this site x

Dr Sarah Myhill, who usually does thorough research, mentions Biocare on her website. This one is free from iron and copper:

Supermarket multivitamins tend not to have stupidly high amounts, and are very cheap (like one-tenth the price) compared to celebrity-endorsed stuff (which contains exactly the same chemicals).

My neurologist, who happens to be the Dr that diagnosed me after running every test in the book to find out why I was having muscle spasms all over my body, told me not to take a multivitamin. He said that you need to find out your specific deficiencies and take those. Whether or not that's true, IDK.

Unfortunately Doctors do not get a good grounding in nutrition from their training .

But I do not like those multivitamin tablets that contain often more than a thousand times the recommended daily dose of some vitamins . I would always recommend a modest Multivitamin and Mineral tablet , to compensate for our poor absorbtion .

Wedgewood, I was taking the centrum chewables due to having a low absorption rate because I had the gastric sleeve. That surgery removed 75% of my stomach. He neurologist mentioned before told me to stop taking it where as the surgeon had told me to take it for the rest of my life. I'm confused as to what to do 🤔
