Sorry to hear that you are suffering discomfort.

B12 deficiency generally presents symmetrically.

Not sure about vitD deficiency

There may be ways that either could lead to loss of muscle mass, most likely through lack of energy leading to lack of exercise leading to loss of muscle mass but I am not aware of a way that B12 deficiency would directly lead to muscle lost. Muscle tone may also be lost due to lack of energy, so may be this is what is happening (B12 plays a part in the processes that allow energy to be released in your cells and are used to contract your muscles) .... but that is something that would normally happen throughout body muscle so would expect it to be symmetrical.

Ooh, that's interesting. Got any useful links about the energy/muscle tone thing? Severe muscle weakness was a major symptom for me when I was first very ill.

sorry Frodo but I don't think I kept any of the actual links.

I agree with you, my own sparrow legs were looking very Max Wall earlier on this year. I put this down to insufficient exercise, tiredness and a poorer diet than I had before the B12 deficiency was noted and now rectified. I am now a stone heavier than my low weight of a few years ago, all due to B12 injecting, as it now allows me to digest most any foods without the terrible reflux and gut bloating I used to get. I can now walk at will, while previously there would be days I would hardly be able to stand up. I still get back pain, but that may not be related, the co codamol helps (1a day) my muscles are coming back all the while. Which is great as i my poor wife relies on me more than ever, and I am so glad I can help her now. I don't think vitamin D is a problem with me.

Did you take physiotherapy for your muscle strength in legs? If yes, when did you start, at what point of time?

Hi, I have had physiotherapy for my knees a few times over the past 40 years. Now whether the instability and pain was or has been always due to B12 deficiency is arguable, problem being I only found out my B12 was so low last year, in December. Then again, I did have gut problems even as far back as 40 years ago.

I think getting your B12 deficiency sorted out first would be best, then try getting your legs fit.😁
