Folate?

Hi

I've just had bloods done and my folate is 4.7 with a range of 3.9-26.8, could this be making me feel tired? Should I supplement? My b12 is 1413 with injections and oral spray which is good but I'm still exhausted.

Many thanks x

Hi Leigh33 you could supplement with Folic acid bought cheaply over the counter at your local Pharmacy or Supermarket.

Personally I have taken 1 – Folic Acid 400μg tablet every day for more years than I can remember.

Or perhaps increase your daily intake of leafy green vegetables, sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, peas, beans etc. Some breakfast cereals are now fortified with folic acid so look at the side panels on the package.

I am not a medically trained person.

Thanks Clive alive, 5 months ago my folate was middle of the range and now it's dropped, along with my ferritin (was 79.8 range 30-400) and now it's 47.6 and nothing has changed in my diet, I eat lots of salad and veg, kale, spinach, red meat, I'm being so good with what I eat as I'm doing weight watchers and it really encourages you to eat healthy, also I posted before about this my mchc has dropped too from 313 to 311 (range 320-360) which I've read is smaller red blood cells, I just don't feel like I'm feeling any better since my b12 deficiency was picked up a year ago.

Many thanks, I've brought a liquid iron and vitamin formula, as I can't tolerate many oral tablet supplements so will see how this goes.

The newly introduced b12 in your system will be eating up your folate and iron stores which is why they're dropping as I understand it. I'm sure someone will jump in if that not correct. So supplements of both. I think the crux of it is...they don't inject us often enough TO feel better. Which seems to be why so many tale matters into their own hands and self inject daily or weekly according to symptoms rather than blood results.

Thank you, I'm taking a liquid supplement with folate, iron and b12, and vit c to help absorbtion, think there is a few more too. I also have a b12 oral spray I use too. Not sure how much I'm absorbing but worth a try to feel better. If I don't supplement now in a few months if it carried on like this I would be iron and folate deficient too, as it seemed quite a big drop in 5 months. Thanks for your reply x
