I love Sundays having fresh coffee and reading the papers until I read this in the magazine . It really upset me and spoilt my Sunday chill time .

Sorry to upset you, helvella, but Dr Hilary Jones is a real doctor - he's on the GMC register as a GP. His GMC Reference Number is 2298102.

Dr H. J. has appeared on TV and radio a lot. I can't say I've found him particularly helpful and I'm definitely not a fan.

I did find a Youtube video of his helpful recently for the treatment of my dry eyes. But generally speaking his advice is simplified and dumbed down to such an extent that his advice often ends up being wrong or completely distorted.

Yes - realised he is real. Just couldn't get myself to type it without quotes. The idea that you either have "real" pernicious anaemia due to lack of intrinsic factor - and tested positive for IF antibodies - OR it is just a dietary deficiency and you don't need injections angered me so much.

Just ask Marz if removal of a section of the gut has the same end result.

Another UK doctor who appears not to have read the

BSH Cobalamin and Folate Guidelines

Both these documents place emphasis on treating patients who are symptomatic for B12 deficiency even if B12 serum levels are within normal range.

Stopping B12 jabs would be disastrous for someone with PA as they need lifelong treatment.

Perhaps he needs to read the PAS leaflet "Treatment is for Life".

the IFA gives false negatives 40-60% of the time dependent on the test method, so a negative result is a long way from proving the absence of PA. The BCSH (British Council for Standards in Haematology) guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of cobalamin and folate deficiency acknowledge this by specifically mentioning IFAB negative PA.

Can't think of a way of saying that in words of 1 syllable though.

I think Doctor Hilary Jones must have missed the half afternoon seminar on P.A. and Vitamin B12 deficiency during his years of medical training.

I'm a flabbergasted P.A. sufferer of 46 years.

Sadly many of my profession would still probably miss your diagnosis! I feel very sad that your failed diagnosis and treatment has resulted in such disability. It is shameful!

What he said is not backed up by The British Medical Journal. This acknowledges that that the result will rise to normal, but treatment should continue.
