guytane - although this forum has anaemia in the title it is actually about a particular auto-immune problem that affects the gut and inhibits the absorption of a particular vitamin - B12.
This condition can also cause problems with other vitamins and minerals (which mainly means folate and iron though not everyone has problems with this.
Anaemia is also just one symptom and isnt' always present - this anaemia is macrocytic - in which the blood cells are larger and rounder than normal. Iron deficiency results in microcytic anaemia when the red blood cells are smaller than normal.
There also isn't a good test for it so it deals generally with B12 absorption problems and their consequences.
There are basically two ways you can become iron anaemic - either you are losing iron in a bleed - or you aren't managing to absorb enough from your food.
I'm not clear from your post if they have conclusively shown that your low iron is due to blood loss - though it does sound as if this has been the focus. It may be that this isn't the right forum to support you and you might find that you get more support on a forum that is dealing with bowl problems
this one might be one to try
