Further tests

Doctors want to do further blood tests on me as they are now pretty certain I have coeliac disease, if I test positive that means a trip to my local hospital for a biopsy.

While I'm there I'll ask if tests can be done to assess damage on my nervous system because i've noticed an uptick in arm and leg spasms in recent months (this of course could just be due to worsening fatigue from my vitamin deficiencies but better safe than sorry), most recently my right arm felt like it weighed a ton alongside a tingling sensation between my elbow and shoulder.

What started off as a pernicious anemia test turned into the diganosis stage for coeliac disease, haha. Well they are both auto-immune diseases.

Is it possible to have both at the same time? And if so can one mask the other?

The biopsy sample to test for coeliacs will be taken from your duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). That will involve passing a tube down your throat, into and through your stomach.

PA is an autoimmune disease that affects the stomach. So, while they're down there, ask the gastroenterologist if he can look for signs of gastric atrophy and to take biopsy samples from the stomach to see if there's any sign of metaplasia.

Yes, it is possible to have coeliacs and PA.

Your potential damage to nerves will need to be checked by a neurologist.
