I have been having B12 injections since loading ones back in Marchthis year and my last one was on the 2nd October..i had the yearly flu jab at the same time.
Since then, I have had a slight cough, runny nose and catarrh etc. Not severe enough to go to docs or have time off work, but annoying enough !
However, I have had bouts of itchy skin (mainly arms and feet) and extreme tiredness which is driving me crazy as I am sleeping okay. I nearly dozed off af work yesterday in front of a classful of children!
I just don't feel right.
Anyone shed any light on this or experienced similar symptoms ?
Thank you in advance x

Hi yvonneu your "slight cough, runny nose and catarrh etc" may just be a "side effect" of the 'flu jab as I have had similar symptoms.
As to your B12 you say you had loading doses in March and I take it a "maintenance" injection on 2nd October. What frequency are your injections, what is your diagnosis (P.A. or B12 Def) and do you know what your Folate level is?
I am not a medically trained person but there are others on here who will be able to give you good advice.
Have b12 injections every 3 months The one I had in May felt fab for 6 weeks then downhill but got thru to August with high dose sub linguals After August one, nowt happened ,so continued with sublinguals all of 3 months But 10 days ago started on a super B complex and within a few hours felt much better With me think it cos all other vitamins low and therefore just peeing b12 I at stage,' try anything till I find what works for me .Cos Docs all have the same medical degree called useless, It just trial and error .Also found magnesium spray really helps for the joint paint, It just what works for you. I now 16 months since loading dose He still not diagnosed me with the cause of my low B 12 unless you got a really good doc it about self help it seems to me.
Many of us find it necessary to supplement in the run up to the next injection. Are you supplementing with folic acid?
As to the cause anyone at any age, can become B12 deficient. However, certain people are at an elevated risk. They include the following:
Vegetarians, vegans and people eating macrobiotic diets.
People aged sixty and over
People who’ve undergone any gastric and/or intestinal surgery, including bariatric surgery for weight loss purposes (Gastric bypass).
People who regularly use proton-pump- inhibitors. H2 blockers, antacids, Metformin, and related diabetes drugs, or other medications that can interfere with B12 absorption.
People who undergo surgeries or dental procedures involving nitrous oxide, or who use the drug recreationally.
People with a history of eating disorders (anorexia or bulimia).
People with a history of alcoholism.
People with a family history of pernicious anaemia.
People diagnosed with anaemia (including iron deficiency anaemia, sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia).
People with Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gluten enteropathy (celiac disease), or any other disease that cause malabsorption of nutrients.
People with autoimmune disorders (especially thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Grave’s disease) Type 1 diabetes, vitiligo, lupus, Addison’s disease, ulcerative colitis, infertility, acquired agammaglobulinemia, or a family history of these disorders.
I know that the cause of my P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) was gastric surgery when I was 17 fifty nine years ago but can you "see yourself" among any of the above people?
Runs in my family and age related But there is definitely something going on with my digestion and had stomach issues The super b complex has 300 folic acid so think I am covered on all counts Going to see what happens on next injection which is this Tuesday Also on last injection the day after was really dizzy and on reading the information sheet inside the packet ,it said to watch for low potassium Remembered last summer having days of dizziness and after eating bananas it subsided and had told doc about it Holding my breath
Had telephone appt with doc yesterday regarding still having ongoing flu like symptoms since flu jab on 2 October. I have felt truly shocking. .nearly falling asleep at work, plus stabbing pains in my back etc
He asked me to go see him within next twenty minutes. .to cut a long story short, I have blocked sinuses and a chest infection so am now on amoxicillin 500mg for next five days.
This is half term as I work in a school so bad timing or what ?
