I’m speaking with GP today, as keep having awful symptoms!
But since the beginning of this year on and off. Have noticed I get random heavy bruise like feelings when I break in sometimes (normally when laying down) kind of pain you’d normally get with a chest infection (although I haven’t had one) and feel like I need to cough after.
Anyone else had this or is it unrelated?

Ask your gp to send you for a chest X-ray just to put your mind at rest. This is a symtom a lot of us do get from p.a or b12 deficiency but it’s always good to get it checked out because stress can make the heart muscle feel very bruised which you’d feel in your chest,I know because I had this years ago and the pain was terrible like really deep and like I’d been thumped on chest,a very good consultant explained to me why stress could do this and the panic was over for me and the pain went.
It’s good your going to gp today so best of luck xx
This is really interesting! I’ve had a really stressful few days, so I’m wondering that’s why! You’re explaining it exactly the same as how I feel! Almost like when you run in the cold and the cold air hits you! Stress can do funny things to our bodies xx
That’s great that your managing to think things through and come to your own conclusions ,sometimes if people are honest and give the benefit of their own experiences it’s amazing the amount of stress that lifts off you,I was so bad that I was in coronary care unit for 3 days and it was just down to pure stress but there’s no doubting the effect it does have on our body and mind so it’s very real.Hopefully the gp will put your mind at rest today good luck let’s know how it goes xx
Just spoken with the GP today, thinks my body may be doing strange things as my levels are very low! He said in Feb when I was diagnosed and had loading doses was very very low then, and because they put me on the tablets (which haven’t worked) my body is still going to be quite low! Which annoyingly is what I’ve been saying for a long time. Explained I get random stabbing pains in arms, thighs, calf’s, stomach, ribs, shoulders and back and that I feel so tired at the moment I can’t move from my bed in the mornings, feel permanently unwell. And as a student at the age of 21, I shouldn’t be feeling this way! Luckily he was very helpful! Bloods to check levels on Monday and they’re going to sort the injections out with a plan for further treatment then! xx
Gosh I didn’t realise you were so young that’s awful but I’m pleased for you that your gp is acknowledging you do have a b12 issue.keep reading and learning from the forum members their guidance is invaluable.take care x
I didnt realise either you wernt on maintenence injections after your loading doses.
My daughter was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia because if the pain she was constantly in . She was at university at the time . Then virtigo and strange throat problems. They said blocked and infected glands . This was all before they eventually did a b12 test yesta later . (84 or 74 in a range that under 180 deficienr) It all makes sense in hindsight) she had been on the 3 monthly regime and tecently pushing for 8 weekly. Ha got 1o weekly!! Was tour folate checked? She has to have 400mcg daily otherwise had symptoms . Her ferritin is also low but hb. Okay. I mention her rather than me because of the age.
Thank you so much! I have the problems with the throat too! Weird shooting pain like you can’t really describe it’s a really odd sensation! I’ve been battling with GP for ages about injections as they tried to say due to my age it must be dietary, but the tablets weren’t working and PA runs in my family! Feel like I’ve finally got somewhere today though, just not something to expect to get so bad at 21! I was also misdiagnosed for a long long time. Kept putting it down to anxiety and said it was all in my head! Have had awful muscular pains the last few weeks and now they’re trying to say it’s a trapped nerve when I know really it’s nerve damage due to not having the injections so my fight with them isn’t over just yet xx
You’ll be getting wake up symptoms you’re body’s repairing. I was so bad at the start, without for so long & nearly cut back on loading but kept going knew I needed them kept thinking I was going to pass out in shops & no way I could drive. I had like electric shocks in my legs my nerves wakening up. My legs are wrecked likely nerve damage. X
Glad you’re going to be back on injections that never should’ve been stopped. Tablets will skew your results that happened to me, fast for the test. Gp’s should know serum test is total B12 so not an accurate test. You’ll need to know your folate & ferritin too often they are low. You’ll likely feel worse before better when your body is repairing. I had pain in my calves & shin ache oh & my bum too after hardly walking. Now I have muscle weakness. Good luck x
Hiya. I get this chest pain when b12 low, I have pernicious anaemia. It used to make me feel really panicky until I connected it it’s the need for an injection. I also have iron deficiency anaemia and get similar pain in chest and lungs and stabbing pain in calf when iron drops so worth keeping that in check too
Have you looked into Costocondritis? It is an inflammation of the small muscles that attach to an area around the rib cage. It can be dreadfully painful. I have had it twice and both times the pain increases whilst changing position like lying down / raising from a lying position and even when I was out trying to walk the dog and taking in a deep breathe. The inflammation can either be due to a medical condition ( mine is due to RA) but it can also occur if someone has effectively bruised those muscles when they have strained them by say lifting a very heavy object or even excessively hard coughing. I would speak to your GP or specialist and suggest Costocondritis as it will likely need anti inflammatory meds. In the meantime try to do all you can to not aggravate the area by movements that set it off as it will just continue to keep it inflamed. I am sorry as it gives me unbearable pain and I was given a course of Prednisolone to calm the inflammation. Hope you get help quickly.
