Hi all, me again ππ
I'm just curious as I'm sat here fancying a glass of red.
Now I have this horrid condition does that mean you can't drink anymore???
Dnt get me wrong I haven't even wanted to for months but it would be helpful to know π

Drinking alcohol does lower your B12 level. That doesn't mean you can't ever have a glass of alcohol. It simply means that you might experience a faster return of symptoms than if you don't drink. Too much sugar or exercise can cause the same problem, so I think the key is really moderation and listening to your body to determine how much is too much.
Drinking alcohol in moderation has no effect on B12 levels. Only if you drink enough to cause liver damage will they be affected.
I've had P.A. for 46 years and still enjoy my daily snifter of fortified wine.
Oooh I shall grab a bottle of vino next time I'm out. Thanks clivealive
but "moderation" is the watchword....
I could only handle 3 glasses before I knew I had this condition so i doubt il be drinking more than that at a time! Haha. Massive light weight
as you will see from above view a bit mixed - some find that alcohol can leave you feeling as if you haven't had B12 for a while - others are fine with it - all you can do is try and see.
Personally I find that alcohol can affect me significantly so would avoid it unless I'm in a position to top up my levels at the same time.
Yes indeed. I was wondering actually does the b12 sprays or patches bypass the tummy??? Could I maybe top up this way in between jabs. Maybe have a drink and use spray for example
the amounts absorbed from sprays is not very large - sublingual is just better than high dose oral (just over 1%) - nasal sprays a bit better (about 3%) - so conclusion would be that most of sublinguals is actually from absorption outside the ileum but in the gut.
haven't looked up studies on patches - and I've never tried them but they obviously won't be going via the gut ... unless your digestive tracts does some very weird and abnormal detours
Haha very true gambit62! Thanks for the advice.... it can't hurt to get a little extra I may look into the patches.
5000mcg patches really work for me π
I think that's the way I'm going to go. I went to get some today and the lady informed me that I shouldn't yet as I havnt had blood checked for levels since diagnosis and loading dose. It's takes another few weeks for me to have that. Apparently it will give the doctors a false reading of my actual levels and how much b12 they need to give me. After that I think I'm going to try the patches in between my 3 monthly jabs x
I find that a cheeky glass of wine makes self injecting far less stressful
No offence taken Hidden you obviously know me too well
