I read the article below on the B12 deficiency site - it made me angry and rather tearful having just been told by a fully qualified doctor for the umpteenth time that tinnitus is not a symptom of B12 deficiency.
I've seen Tinnitus on symptom lists, including the NHS symptom list, Folkestone
nhs.uk/Conditions/Anaemia-v... so it might just be worth taking a copy of it to GP but, as in so many experiences noted on here, doctors just will not listen to patients, think they know it all and so just dismiss it, unfortunately.
I was hoping my tinnitus was due to B12 def but, after 10 weeks on alt days injection, there's been no change so must be due to my ear condition, unfortunately.
GPs will normally not even read anything unless written my UK medics and published in recognised sources, ie BMJ etc. So, if you can find anything fitting those criteria, you might have a chance. Sorry to sound so negative but that seems how it is, in general. Occasionally, a doctor is found to be sympathetic and more accommodating
I personally can identify with much of that article. If it wasnt for my own desire to find out about the things which are wrong with my body i would probably be in a very sorry state at this time.
Its thanks to the wonderful people on this forum who have suffered and learnt and taught the newbies that even without the gps help we are able to carry on living and regaining the person that we used to be.
Hi Chris , my OH has PA and tinnitus , but I doubt his gP will accept pA is the cause , he also has hearing loss . His audiologist said there is a device you can download on your phone called therapy for tinnitus , Also it can be purchased from tinnutus.org.uk. Good luck
Grrrr. Tinnitus is indeed a possible symptom of B12 deficiency. As JMN2017 mentioned it is even listed on the NHS choices site! It is listed on the PA Soc website as a symptom too. pernicious-anaemia-society.... Stupid doctor!
B12 deficiency isn't the only possible cause of tinnitus though - things like low iron can also cause it too. My tinnitus much improves when my ferritin isn't just dragging along the bottom of the range.
Thank you for your advice. My tinnitus has ceased in the last 24 weeks. I still become semi conscious - ie if my wife is talking to me her voice becomes distant as does the awareness of my surroundings - But the tinnitus does not occur only a sense of euphoria like in a dream and a sort of auditory hallucinations.
Weeks can go between events and events last less than 10 seconds and can recurr up to 6 times in a day but usually only in the mornings often beginning during sleep.
For example two weeks ago, on Monday, I had 6 events, Tuesday 2 then no more until Thursday of this week then yesterday day, on Sunday I had 3 events. Nine today so far.
I don’t know if this relates in any way to your experiences.
