I don't know why some of them make something so simple so complicated. What do you think? I'm just getting started with my B12 experience. I asked my doc to order MMA and homocysteine tests and you'd think I just asked him for a prescription for a year's supply of narcotics....

But did he agree to the tests?
I couldnt get very far with my surgery so ended up going it alone.
He said we'll "wait until next month", knowing full well my medical records show prior B12 deficiency and macrocytosis and previous/current unexplained neurological problems. I started methylcobalamin not taking chances of more irreversible damage than I may already have. I'm already right at a year into current symptoms. B12/MMA/homocysteine would probably be worthless to check now. Maybe CBC to check for macrocystosis again. Otherwise, I'm just winging it right now. Every symptom known cause can be B12 according to official sources I've found (mostly rare presenting case studies). Neurologists I've visited just threw up their hands after multiple clean MRIs and other tests. I'm one of those rare cases apparently, but all the evidence points back to B12.

why would the mma be pointless now?
According to one cobalamin study I came across, MMA and homocysteine levels start returning to normal within a month of supplementing B12. It is a slight possibility that one would still have problems with absorption, but the reaction I got from the B12 says that is not so.
