It depends if you have been diagnosed with PA . If you have , you will need injections for life . In UK you would get one injection every 3 months, after the initial loading dose of 6 over 2weeks , or one every 2 months if you have neurological symptoms . If symptoms still prevail , you will have to ask for more regular injections . This request is usually refused, and many people have to resort to self-injection. You need good quantities of folate/ folic acid( vitamin B9) because it works together with vitamin B12.

wedgewood, not just PA that requires injections for life - most absorption problems aren't treatable (just h pylori and tapeworms that are) - so would require injections for life.

Hi Dabar1 I see that your doctor put you "on Folic Acid tablets 5mg a day" a month ago from your previous post. Are you still taking them?

Do you know what caused your B12 deficiency?

I reckon long term IBS has been the cause of my B12 deficiency. I am still taking folic acid at the same time trying to control my IBS . At present I am taking more soluble food types and taking a chinese herbal mixture that does work.
