How long after anyone out there with B 12 deficiency took shots did you get any relief from the pain and how long before it was completely gone? Also did it get worst after the first few shots? My leg pain is still there after 2 months of weekly shots. thanks

Hi pejka62 there is no set timescale of how long recovery may take from a B12 deficiency as a lot will depend on how long you were deficient before treatment began and how much damage was done to your body.

Some symptoms may "disappear" quite quickly whereas it is not uncommon for some neurological symptoms to actually appear to get worse before they get better as the B12 you are having injected begins to repair the damage done to the nerve endings. Sadly it is possible that some may never "go away" completely.

Do you know what your Folate level is? . Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.

What is your future schedule of injections?

After about 6 months of alternate day injections the pain in my arms was noticeably less. I'm now almost a year into the injections along with co factors and my arms are much better. The pain at night used to be unbearable. Unfortunately my leg pain just went on getting worse and the MRI showed a spinal stenosis. Help from my NHS doctors was so very slow even after they found the cause so I went privately to a neuro surgeon and had the operation just over 2 weeks ago. I am obviously still recovering but the pain in my legs has gone. I am now injecting twice a week and will continue like that for the time being. The surgeon was interested in my B12 problem and thought I was being sensible continuing to inject.
