Hi Cup-cake7 do you feel a need to take a Vitamin B12 supplement?

A doctor looking at his screen and reading those results would say they are Normal and wouldn't offer treatment unless you were exhibiting neurological symptoms associated with a B12 Deficiency.

Symptoms of B12 deficiency tend to develop slowly and may not be recognised immediately. As the condition worsens, common symptoms include:

Weakness and fatigue

Light-headedness and dizziness

Palpitations and rapid heartbeat

Shortness of breath

A sore tongue that has a red, beefy appearance

Nausea or poor appetite

Weight loss

Diarrhoea

Yellowish tinge to the skin and eyes

If low levels of B12 remain for a long time, the condition also can lead to irreversible damage to nerve cells, which can cause the following symptoms:

Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet

Difficulty walking

Muscle weakness

Irritability

Memory loss

Dementia

Depression

Psychosis

Do you have any of the above? What is your diet like? Have you had gastric surgery? what medications are you on?

I am not a medically trained person but there are others on here who will give you good advice.

Hi thankyou so much for support my adrenals are having to work extra with all this and there mustn't be enough adrenaline available!,

This is all scaring me to bits because I'm now aware the globulin antibody is too high and now into the tumour worry, I keep trying to bring myself down again but it's hard when you see things in print

Yes I have had palps in past and a bit of out of breath, and now after your post I can see I am permanently damaged with some of the second list

Pretty low now with all this, it reads like a loss of your personality, it begs the question for me is my reading a bit low or low?

Sorry I'm upset right now, perhaps I shouldn't read too much stuff, the bottom line is I'm scared

I am taking b12 now and the other supporting things I'm also GF and trying for dairy free. I'm buying kelp or something later and my gp is sending me for a lung x rAy,, but maybe it should be a thyroid scan Ron pituatory even?

Thanks

J

Jeppy, B12 serum is a difficult test and shouldn't be used as a single marker - your results are in the normal but could still be deficient for you - but that doesn't mean they are. Given the overlap between symptoms of thyroid problems and symptoms of B12 deficiency I would suggest that you sort out the thyroid and then come back to B12 if that doesn't resolve all of your symptoms. There are a few more tests that can be used to clarify the current B12 situation - MMA and homocysteine but it would probably be better to see what happens with thyroid first.

Surely no harm in bumping it up a bit first as may help the palp breath side
