Time it takes to recover

I was diagnosed 4/10. Had 2 weeks of loading shots. Now receiving one a week. I take folate and D3 with K. When will the symptoms let up? One symptom that my friend notices is that my voice is stronger - no longer hoarse. But I use a walker because my legs are weak.

Assuming that you are based in US - could you confirm - just that treatment regimes vary depending on location.

Do you know if you had macrocytosis/megaloblastic anaemia - larger rounder red blood cells - a classic symptom of B12 deficiency.

B12 is used by a lot of systems in the body and how long it takes or a symptom to go will depend on which system is affected as damage to different systems takes different times to heal. If you are anaemic then it will take a few months to improve as old red blood cells are only replaced when they 'wear out' which takes about 4 months.

Best thing to do is to make a full list of symptoms and then monitor how each is progressing

Yes, I'm in US. My red blood cells were abnormal.

Hi Blinkysmom

You may need to have your folate level checked too.

Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.
