So many doctors feel like the guy on this blog, I think. It feels a personal insult if patients do not limit themselves to what is prescribed. But what is the scientific proof that taking supplements, where tests show mikd deficiency or lower than the mean levels, is damaging? Science has very rarely, if at all investigated this kind of area. It is not a disproved treatment, merely one with unevaluated benefits.

Why should this patient not try it, if there is no, or low evidence of risk?

More generally, the SSBM has done some good work, especially in the area of birth, in banishing some established NHS practices which had no evidence behind them.
