Dignified in April2016 but no loading doses due to 'not being anaemic'

I've fought my GP and started loading doses last week, 4 down And 2 to,go.

I'm still falling asleep mid afternoon and when I wake up I seriously feel like I've been run over by a. Bus!

What is wrong, can anyone advise else ? X

Hi MzChapperz It's a bit late at night but what were you diagnosed with in April 2016?

Can you post the results of the blood tests that were taken showing the levels and the ranges from < to >?

Are you taking additional Folate with your injections as this is essential to process the B12.

Sadly it is not unknown for some symptoms to feel worse before they get better at the start of treatment so you are not alone.

Hang on in there.

Hi MzChapperz. So sorry that you're not feeling any benefit from the loading doses, as yet. But its early days and it does take a while for some (many) people. It's quite usual to feel worse before you feel better, especially if you've been B12 deficient for a while.

I can so recognise the falling asleep and feeling like you've been run over by a bus!

I expect you know by now that Macrocytic anaemia is not always present in B12 deficiency or PA...so your GP is being nonsensical (to,put it a nice way)!

Please hang on in there...it will get better.

Oh, and, did you sort out a B12 regime for after the loading doses. From what you've said before, it sounds as if you need to be on the neurological regime (i.e. 1mg every other day until no further improvement and then every eight weeks).

You might have to chase your GP for this but I know you've done that before 😀. Please don't give up because you feel so tired and lacking in everything! It's really important that you get the right amount of B12 in order to avoid the potential for permenant neurological damage.

Six loading doses alone will not do the trick...evidenced by how you are feeling right now, I think!

Also - is your thyroid now under control - perhaps someone on thyroid uk could help if you think this is a contributing problem.

Good luck, sleep lots (how can you not!) and take care xx

Hi MzChapperz

I felt like this even though I have b12 shots every 2 weeks. Then on a friend's suggestion I added in 5mg a day of folic acid. It took a couple of weeks but it was like a miracle .... I feel 'normal' for the first time in years. Perhaps worth running it past your GP if you're not already taking it?

All the best

Karen

Have you had your ferritin levels checked? Low ferritin often goes hand in hand with B12 deficiency-don't know why except in the case of malabsorption issues. But it's worth it to get that checked out. When my ferritin was low, I was very weak.

Best wishes for feeling much better very soon! :-)

although many people do feel benefits during loading shots there are others that don't. One week in is really early days so it may just be a question of time. I didn't notice any difference from B12 shots until my 3rd loading dose - ie several months after treatment started ... and I don't think that is unique to me.
