High bp: Oh my goodness if there isn't... - Pernicious Anaemi...
High bp
Do you do your own readings regularly? Is this one a one off high one?
I have had unexplained high bp for about five years now and it wasnt controlled for any length of time with any of the pills they prescribed.
It turns out that along with my b12d i am a full blown coeliac and due to the amount of damage, they suspect for quite a while. At least the dr now doesn't think im a hypochondriac after all! Lol
But my point is if you are high bp regularly, i would suggest you ask for coeliac test--- since going gluten free my blood pressure has dropped dramatically and is more regular reading wise. Yes i take tablets but at least they work now. My readings were a lot higher than yours, regularly 150/98, at best, even with a concoction of tablets.
From what i can remember someone on the blood pressure forum said exactly the same too. Wouldnt suggest you go gf to find out unless gp is unwilling to investigate the possible connection.
But of course there is the good old fail safe - well you are stressed/anxious of course your bp is going to be high! Lol
Ty for all you info. Got a gp appointment tomorrow afternoon. It's been high for two weeks now. I take it at home myself. I'm getting terrible headaches almost everyday so maybe the high BP is the cause of the headache
I have read that raised blood pressure is symptomatic of something else going on in the body. Maybe you are low in magnesium. How are your Iron - Ferritin - Folate test results looking ? When Iron is low the heart is known to beat faster - this is because oxygen attaches to the iron in the red blood cells for circulation around the body. So when Iron is low then so is the oxygen. The heart senses this and beats faster in an effort to create more oxygen. Apologies for this very simplistic overview
The other condition linked to low B12 is the Thyroid. Has it been tested ? - and if so do you have any results ? This may have been discussed before but have not had time to go through all your posts. Both over and under active thyroids can cause the heart to beat faster. Endocrinology and Cardiology are not two disciplines that work together - sadly. The effect of the endocrine system on the heart is huge.
Check out the book - Thyroid and Heart Failure - on Amazon. Low T3 can be the cause of so much and yet is rarely tested. T3 is the Active thyroid hormone and is needed in every cell of your body. T3/Liothyronine is mentioned often in the book. The dramatic title can be explained as it is Italian
All blood results normal except colestrol hich was high 7.2 so now on atorvastatin
I'm going to echo lisahelen - since I eliminated gluten from my diet my BP has fallen dramatically, well down into the normal range.
Hope it works ... I'm already gluten free though x
