After refusing to reduce the time from 3 months , my doc has had a change of heart and contacted a haemotologist who suggested a six month trial of two monthly jabs. How long should you be without supplementation to get a reasonably accurate reading .
My last figure was 2000 .
TIA

It really varies by person. There is no way to know for sure how long it will take for your levels to drop.
Do you need to have your levels tested and be 'low' before you can get the trial of 2 monthly injections? If testing is not required, I would not bother to stop supplementing. You might need to make your doctor aware that serum B12 levels are virtually useless once a patient has starting receiving injections. The portion of inactive B12 in a serum sample can skew the results toward normal even when a deficiency still exists.
It's really for myself because I am puzzled that my bloods always come back high . I am to have the two monthly injections anyway . It's just when the G.P sees bloods over a thousand she seems to think they're not needed . Fortunately she sought the advice of a consultant . Pp
The last two serum B12 readings I had were over 5999 (which is as high as their assay can go). But I still need weekly jabs.
I'm sure that some medics think it's just a placebo effect. but I sometimes have friends asking if I've missed a dose because I don't seem 'right'. That's one hell of a placebo effect.
Hi Pinkpeony do you know what your Folate level is as this is needed to process the B12.
Well done on getting more frequent injections but as others have said test results are pretty meaningless once they are started - unless they come out very low.
