Hi, does anyone suffer from pitting edema? I have it in my swollen feet, ankles and upto my knees.

I think the sides of my neck, under the jawbone is also swollen.

Dr gave me diuretics yesterday until my haematologist appt in June.

Haven't read it's a B12d problem.

ive been having the same thing, i worked out what it is but i forget to say at the docs cos of other things. I was diagnosed pa just over 2 years ago, got worse rather than better with treatment of every 3 months and docs didnt seem to be able to hear me. Beginning of April last year i thought i must have twisted my ankle, so went to doc got xrays everything ok. Then realized that the other ankle was swollen (less so) and that even the pads of my feet swelled if i walked a short distance. I'm still the same. My neck seems swollen, lower legs ankles and feet. i MUST remember to say about that next week , its just that other more important things take over. I think that P.a kicks off other things, or kind of amplifies stuff. Or my levels of folic etc are wrong. Going to doc on tuesday about last bloods. i know about edema, but what is pitting edema?

Interesting, sounds similar to me! Pitting oedema is when you lift a finger after pressing down and a mark/depression remains.

I also mentioned the swelling at Drs previously but it got lost amongst everything else. This time I went specifically for it. Dr seemed to take seriously. Let us know if you find out what it is please.

Ok , thats the same with me. Doc even pressed his finger into my lower leg and saw the imprint stay there, but said NOTHING. THat was before I worked out what it was. Well im pretty sure it is edema. Docs are mostly useless hahaha. Sorry, but it get old, even when stuff is right in front of them, they do and say nothing helpful.

I dont think its the B12 directly. I think it is possibly that because i self inject and take daily suppliments and havent been able to check the balance of : Folic, iron, vit d, magnesium, potassium, ferritin, that it may be an imbalance.

The other thing is that prior to being diagnosed i was basically slowing down gradually over a period of years. Physically getting slowly less able (mentally at a low level depression cos i didnt know what was wrong!) . Anyhow, i came almost to a full stop just at the time i found out what was wrong. Thing is im 56 and until last year i was never more than a size 14 in my life apart from pregnancy. I expected the injections as were promised to FIX me. Instead i got worse and fatter cos of low energy. With the extra weight and less exersize (had to give up work it was impossible) i got borderline diabetes 2, which no one told me till i found out much later this year accidentally from nurse hahaha. So , i had bloods done last week and see doc next. Edema can be because of diabetes (please correct me if im wrong anyone) untreated or not controlled.

Im now a size 18. If i walk my feet blow up. its a catch 22 cycle. i have to get the weight off. Getting a dog this week, ive been deliberately walking regardless every other day. But a dog will remind me. Plus i would love one . Hope this makes some kind of sense, my concentration is worse than a goldfish some days!!

hi sharonwei. sorry to hear you're in such a 'catch 22 situation'. in respect of the edema, i'd ask doc to check u for cardiac symptoms. 'pitting edema' is a classic cardiac symptoms. low b12 can cause cardiomyopathy & coz of age (56 is young for cardiac stuff) Docs tend to sometimes ignore the sympoms not realizing it's due to low b12. this happened to me & coz i wasn't in the age range they dismissed my sumptoms. almost all my cardiac symptoms have gone since having b12 treatment.

all good luck with ur next appt.

HH.

I had very swollen ankles before starting treatment but have now lost a lot of weight (3stone) and that has settled. I had never been able to lose weight before B12. I now have energy to exercise 3 times a week. It is a vicious cycle! Perhaps more B12 is required?
