Do any of you have difficulty getting out of bed with pain and stiffness, also difficulty turning over in bed?

Lots. Not so much turning over in bed now, but did have when before I got treatment. One of my main problems is suffering from, what I can only describe as tremor and weakness in the mornings. This used to last for about an hour (days varied as to severity) but it's now got a lot worse. This, I believe, is because I've never been allowed to rest and I'm simply compounding acquired injuries.

It's a bit of a nightmare to be honest because now it's really starting to affect my day.

I found the film of Murphy and Minot's patients back in the 20s and was sort of relieved to see a lady struggling in the same 'wonky' way when she got out of bed.

When I watch it I wonder if she improved thoughout the day or stayed the same. I improve but recently I've found all walking painful - particularly in both thighs where I used to have problems with only one.

I suffer with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and have the same symptoms as you describe.

There is some good info on Polymyalgia on the HeathUnlocked PMR/GCA site. However I'm not suggesting that this is what you have.

Are you taking statins?

No.

Good! So many people seem to be on statins these days and stiffness such as you describe is a known side effect. It affected a friend of mine very badly so he binned the statins.

It might be worth having your inflamatory levels done [ ESR CRP ] when you next have a blood test, mine was raised when I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia. [ I was also borderline low on B12 ] My symptoms were..... painful thighs, shoulders, and hips. and I couldn't turn over in bed.

I,m 53 Rosiered.

I can have a spell with very painful/ burning hip joints ( band back/neck) and be then very stiff in the morning and evening, it most probably is some form of RA, it helps me to have loads of B12 and also no stress and neurophen plus when bad. Stop it getting to bad is important. I have a scar on my face from falling straight into a cuboard as I was getting up out of bed, just suck trough my legs, but that was before I started adding self bought B12 to the NHS treatment I get. Fingers crossed I've had no big flare ups had for years...But I know now to stop when I just feel a bit uncomfortable and start the anti inflame/ neurophen, plus keep up with B12 and folate, it currently seems all to work for me.

Hi All, I am new to this site and having low B12 (diagnosed in Feb 2014). I am also experiencing severe pain in the mornings, and feel almost "locked up" in my joints when I wake. As well as muscle and joint pain my skin is tender and "burning". My GP referred me to a rheumatologist and they've diagnosed fibromyalgia! I'd hoped all the aches would go once I was on the B12 injections, I guess that's not going to happen? Feeling pretty low about it all. MariLiz

I'm glad you got refered to a Rheumatologist, at least you have a diagnosis, as you could have carried on thinking the aches and pains were all due to low B12. We cant blame everything we get on having PA. although many symptoms are the same, so best to get them checked out.

I hope you soon feel better.

Hi Bowler, many thanks for your reply. Being on this site has made me realise just how many of us there are struggling with low B12 and other health problems. Best wishes MariLiz

My diagnosis of B12 deficiency co-incided with breaking my ankle so for a long time I was left thinking that the stiffness and pain were probably down to the broken ankle. However, since I started self-supplementing the stiffness and pain have definitely decreased. In bed I really notice it with the ankle which just feels tight (and that may be down to tendon being stretched around the pin that is now in my ankle ... though it is also true that I get burning sensations when the B12 is getting low). The stiffness generally isn't that bad but I do feel a bit like the bride of frankenstein when I head to the loo in the night ... either that or a weeble as a wooble my way across the bedroom and landing :)

Hi Jane123, just spotted you, sorry a bit late, but have you ever had your vitamin d levels checked ? By taking 5000iu of vitamin D I got rid of my stiffness when getting up out of chairs and bed, I cured myself almost overnight. If I forget to take my vitamin D3 my stiffness comes back again.
